HOW TO LIGHT PRUNE FRUIT TREES in WINTER / ROOTING SOFTWOOD CUTTINGS 

You can use a biodynamic tree paste on that deer wounded tree. 2 parts silica sand or diatomaceous earth, 3 parts clay (local if you have clay soil or bentonite), 4 parts manure (I use horse because that’s what I have) and enough water or fermented horsetail (herb) or nettle tea to make a paintable slurry. Mix in a 5 gallon bucket with a stick or with a paint mixer on a drill. (Strongly advise mixing outside if using power tools as it might go everywhere.) With a stiff wire brush, brush the trunk vigorously to remove any loose bits then slather on your slurry. It will and stay on for a year or more. Does wonders for contact wounds and insect damage.
