Welcome to Branching out my new found life in permaculture. I own 12 and half acres in Ontario Canada. Join me as I learn to utube and post all the things I’m doing on the farm. I will show you how i do things and the results i achieved. Now i cant win them all but at least you can see what i did and if it worked or not and if it is suited for you to try. Always looking for helpful comments and discussions. Anyone can do this. All you need is a small spot to grow a seed and some water and your on your way. Good luck, looking forward to hearing from you.
The potatoes likely just needed more water. I plant in feed bags. I start at the bottom with seed potato and very rich soil. When they sprout I cover with more soil and add one more seed potato. Up to 3-4 layers. Water constantly and your 3-4 potatoes will multiply by about 10. Just as easy to harvest
I know a guy that drags a blade, I think it’s some farm implement, through the pond on a chain with his small tractor. Turn the blade, walk the chain around and repeat in opposite direction. You could try sitting down it would help the angle be more parallel to the bottom of the pond.
i did start to pull closer to the ground but i just wasnt grabbing enough of the rush to yank it out. now i could do that in the big pond where there is no plants. the small one however has small plants i dont want to pull out. well ii have all year to think of a new idea and or build something similar to what you said. cheers mate
Trial and error... And honest discussion about both successes and failures. ❤️. Deep South Homestead did some videos on air layering using gallon sized Ziploc bags vice the commercial layering cups... Will be waiting for your updates on that process in a few weeks or so... Much love 💕
so far i found the the air layering bulbs are just more stable than plastic bags not to say plastic bags or containers are any less useful. my opinion the bulbs are design specific for air layering. also you have to check on them once in awhile to make sure they are still damp. we will see in about a month or so. cheers
To spray or not to spray. Do you really, really need them? My area had a beetle infestation for years, defoliating every snowball bush in the area. I kept adding compost and kelp around the base of mine. It took a few years but it made it through.
The tornado and hail mostly,, really set us back. Did manage to get over 20lbs, or about 10kg of tomatoes so far, second round has come up, barely. Loaded up on sweet potatoes for the hot crop, very easy, started them all from one store bought potato.. it's been my experience that they store exceptionally well. Im very concerned though, i have morning coffee under huge Crepe Myrtles, generally the "Buzzing" of the wings fills the air... Curtis, i havnt counted 3 bees this year. Very disturbing! I get a kick out of how different our seasons are. Radishes and carrots are March April here, and again in October... Peace and happy gardening!
Radishes can be cooked as well as eaten raw BTW... Taste a bit like turnip to me... milder... I always smile and think of the Monty Python highwayman skit when I think of lupins 😂😂 Did you have any success last year with the asparagus seed?
not really i just drop it all back into the spot where it grows so maybe one or two young shoots i could not see. i didnt know they can be cooked. hmmm
Wife and I rounded an outside corner at Walmart and it was lined with potted flowers with discount tags on them looking worse for wear. We got these previously 20 dollar and up flowers for like 3 bucks apiece took them home, started watering them and had great flowers for the rest of summer. 90 percent of people think "I'm not buying dead flowers!" More for me.
Yep. It is frustrating when they refuse to discount a plant that is 90% dead, but still salvageable. Zero shot it sells at full price, just let me take it for 3/4 off instead of throwing it away.
www.youtube.com/@branchingoutpermaculturewi4766 Thanks for a terrific video! A few years ago I purchased a property with an older, neglected pear tree that's desperately in need of pruning. I'll save a link to this video to review next January, then prune it following your guidelines. Cheers!
Glad you found the video useful. Good luck with the pruning. Remember you don’t have to do all of it in one year you can spread it out each year till you get it where you want it. Cheers and thanks for watching
Always good to experiment 👍👍. For those who don't have rooting hormone powder, a crushed up regular aspirin can suffice. There are several techniques for air and tip layering to experiment with. You might want to keep a keen eye out for insects... Insects tend to attack the weakest leaves/branches first, and there will be leaf loss and some atrophy as the new roots take hold... Also, if fruit tries to grow on the new plant, remove it asap... Will be awaiting the update in Sept... Much love 💕
Ahhh, at about 14 minutes in you revealed your secret... "Let's get to work, because it's not going to get done by itself"... Now I know what I'm doing wrong this year 😂... A word of caution on saving pepper seeds. Do NOT grow hot peppers anywhere close to sweet peppers. The hot gene is dominant and you can get a second generation of Bell Peppers that'll burn your tongue... been there, done that 😂😂 Much love 💕
Got a feeling those big leaf maples will be putting g down roots through the holes in bottom of your pots! Love maples ❤ Hope you had a strawberry shortcake 🍰 Carryon Curtis 🪴
Well, count your blessings. We had one roll through last Wensday, that was an F2. To look at my garden, is to look at devistation. I didn't realize how much i loved my green friends until i saw them leveled. No power for 3 days in an all electric home, some broken windows, and carnage, but ee are healthy and cleaning up! God bless Curtis.
@@branchingoutpermaculturewi4766 Thanks man, fortunately, we enjoy at least 2 growing seasons here, and typically (lol) I dew much better in the fall. Have about 30 days to get seeds up again.. take care man, and enjoy, it can all be gone in less than an hour...
Take care Dean... Your area seems to be in the danger zone every day... I follow (Ryan Hall Y'all) for weather and live storm coverage in your area 🙏🙏❤️
@@melodyscamman244 🤗❤️, thank you Melody! Never bemoan rain in my area,, but damn! My prayers for those in the path last night, and for the ones coming this afternoon... That pesky gasoline!
Unless your asparagus is at least 3 years old it shouldn't be picked. The plants need to focus on developing good roots. Look at all that compost materials!😆 Dried and green grasses cut. Mix with 25% manure and you get good compost, free. Optional, mulch cut some and you have decent mulching for beds. Those beds going down the slope would probably be better turned to go across, holding water.
I understand the beds would have been better the other way where swales could have been used. However I have a different idea for irrigation. Collecting rain from the greenhouse and using it to water the beds.
Hey brother! I noticed after the 1st transplant of the "10 maples" you have something white around the bottom of the trees, what is that? PVC pipe? Just learning, thanks in advance! 👍BTW, love 💚 that greenhouse!
@@Sheboss333 you can use what they call tiling. its plastic piping used for under ground drainage. its fairly cheap in price and may be what i use in the future more often. i did use it on my chestnuts i planted last fall.
Cool video Curtis, wow 4:32 awesome webbing! Best get after those strawberries 🍓 they’ll be vining all over…. Looking 👀 great! Love a bonfire 🔥 Happy growing!!
mmmm cant wait for fresh tomatoes. i have my squash pumpkin watermelon starting to arise from the earth now i just have to keep them watered. cheers mate
My comment seems to have been lost last week... Anyways, several different sites have been hailing the advantages of using a crimping roller in lieu of mowing the grasses (?). Might be worth doing some research into on a rainy day... Cherries are usually pretty hardy from my understanding... Your elderberry might do well around the perimeter of your ponds (?) Much love.
even though this worked temporarily i did not get back to them in time to water them and they fried in the sun also clear bottles may work a bit better
I know right. It sucked being off for a month. it’s the last stretch that takes the longest. I’ve been watching your channel grow since you help me start this. 👏. It’s fun seeing how many people we can reach. Can’t wait to collaborate again. It’s been years.
