In this video we take a look at how to set up your hobby station with a few different tips and tricks for lighting. Getting it right for you can be something that takes many attempts but with this video I show you my journey that I've been on as well as where I'm at in terms of Lighting my own set ups!

As a professional photographer, can confirm, not properly lighting your hobby workspace is a non-starter! Esp white balance! Killer vid man!!

A very interesting video. The first thing I did to improve my hobby space lighting was to change the bulb in the room light (which luckily is right above my desk) to a cool white LED - that made a big difference

(TLDR: I have a question in the last sentence of this paragraph) Great video on a really important subject! I'm still trying to set up the "ultimate" lighting source for my needs... maybe I'm just a huge perfectionist, but I haven't quite dialled it in perfectly yet. I'm working in a dedicated "hobby corner" of a small English home... so a bit like your setup, with a small desk and everything at arms reach. I've got three overhead Ikea Tertials with basic DIY diffusers, 6000k CRI 85 bulbs outputting 1400 lumens each (hoping to upgrade these to CRI 95+ if I can ever find a suitable bulb at

I wonder if a large overhead ring light or perhaps one trick we do when lighting sets is to bounce a light off a white ceiling; the larger the “soft box” to harder it is for hard shadows to cast because light is coming from all directions from above and relatively much more evenly. This smaller light source, even diffused will still cast shadows because its from a small source.
