Rather than arguing over who's right about their dishwasher loading method, just watch this video and make this your new household dishwasher loading routine! It's the most efficient method and will save you time and hassle. Enjoy!

Great video! I hate my dishwasher, it's and older Bosch. I have to run the hot water, not cold, or it really won't get the dishes clean. I tried using vinegar in the rinse thing, but it doesn't dry the dishes. And worst of all the stupid machine doesn't automatically turn off when it's finished. So I do the dishes by hand and put them in the dishwasher to air dry so I don't have to do it!!! LOL..... but the video is great! :)

I can relate to the dishwasher that doesn't clean well. We have had hard water out here for years (supposedly is soft now, but my husband and I don't think so), and after a few years, we saw the spots on the dishes, too. I finally got smart and decided to take a neighbor's advice and add 1/4 cup of vinegar with each load. Eventually, all that sediment build up on the door, and I scraped it all off. Gross, but it got clean. Btw, I love vinegar, baking soda, cute spray bottles from Dollar Tree, and microfiber cloths! Yea! And thanks so much for answering my microwave-cleaning question! My MIL says she's going to try it! (And I'm totally borrowing the phrase "dishwasher Tetris," because it's so true!!! :-) Love this vid!)

One little tip: The rack is square; the spray is round. Avoid putting stemware or tall glasses in the corners where the spray is weak. Put short items like cups in the corners. Very informative video.

here in India we don't have many households with dishwashers. we still rely on good old maid [who don't turn up half the time and the milk always curdles if we boil it in a dish cleaned by her]. but a few years ago when we bought our own house i decided i shall do all the cleaning myself and being a busy health practitioner that was quite a challenge. [and then i discovered your channel and life has been that much easier] so, last year i did a lot of research on dishwashers with the mere thought of saving time and energy. i got very bad reviews from all the older generation dishwasher owners saying that dishwashers aren't for Indian cooking [we use a lot of oil and the processing is quite elaborate] but after a lot of deliberation i went ahead and bought a high end Siemens product...and man!!! am i glad? i wrote this elaborate explanation because when i was surfing the net to decide i didn't see a single post that helped me. so yes Indian cooking too can be cleaned in a dishwasher [if you learn how to do it] and actually much these machines have more commitment and brains than you and me :)

So it's clear. Nobody actually knows how to load a dishwasher because dishwashers were invented and produced but never actually perfected for their task. So we all just play tetris with what we've got, try not to overload it and hope for the best. Thanks!

I would recommend running the hot water before starting the cycle. The statement you made about the cold water saving energy is completely false. During the main wash, when the detergent is dispensed, the water is supposed to be heated to around 140 degrees, and during the final rinse, it is heated to almost 160 degrees. If you are using cold or lukewarm water, the heater has much more work to do to reach these temperatures. The heater will run regardless of the heated dry being on or off, and if it fails to reach a certain level of water heating in a certain amount of time, the unit could shut down and trigger an error code, depending on the dishwasher. The result of not running the hot water before the cycle is usually a very extended cycle time, especially in newer units. The heater has much more work to do and it takes much longer to get to temperature, which uses more energy, not only for the heater, but also the extended running of the wash motor. Manufacturers recommend at least 120 degree water at the start of the cycle. It is easier on the machine, ultimately more energy efficient and it does a better job of cleaning the dishes.

I run my dishwasher off cold supply. Everything comes out stupendously clean. Your comment is over the top.

Are you guys talking about running the hot water through the sink.... first, before running the dishwasher? Or actually using s hot cycle?
@lordkuma7935
@lordkuma7935 4 года назад
@@zamenfarhan368 running it at the sink. In most cases, they are directly connected under the sink or very close to it. It's sorta like priming the line with hot water, so that it's hot from the very start. It gives the heater less work to do to reach the target temperatures of the wash and rinse cycle, thereby shortening the cycle time, saving some wear and tear on the heater, and saving energy.
@lordkuma7935
@lordkuma7935 4 года назад
@@timcent7199 my reply it's not over the top. It's facts. If you're getting good results, by all means, keep doing what you're doing. My response is based on science, manufacturer recommendations and over 15 years Appliance repair experience. What I layed out in my response is what is recommended as the industry standard, and it's also what I know works best for most dishwashers. If you have evidence beyond "this is what I do" I would welcome it, and would love to hear it. I'm always willing to hear people out. But after all that, you come at me with "your post is over the top" and I have it hooked to the cold supply and I get good results... well good for you. Doesn't change the fact that it goes against recommendations of both the industry and the manufacturers. Anyway.. hope you have a good day.
@zamenfarhan368

@@lordkuma7935 that is great to know! But that doesn't mean we leave the hot water running for a while just to prime it and make sure the hot is in the pipes correct?

Plastic storage ware is always the biggest challenge in our dishwasher. The kind that you get with a takeout order or with pre-packaged lunch meats. We tend to use them a lot for packed lunches, and trying to load them in the dishwasher without finding them, especially the lids, strewn about the inside (or worse, melting on the element) after the wash cycle, while making sure they actually get clean can sometimes be an exercise in futility.

Here is another tip for you. When loading plates in the dishwasher instead of loading all the plates going outwards in one direction your actually suppose to load the plates going Inwards from each side especially for if you have extra dirty plates so that the dishwasher can clean the dishes quicker and properly.

I’m teaching my stepson to load the dishwasher (better late than never). I showed him which areas of the bottom rack I put the dinner plates, the salad plates, and the cat’s small plates, and about varying the utensils in the silverware dividers to keep stuff from spooning. Middle rack, I showed him to make sure there is something between each glass to keep them from bouncing into each other, and how to place bowls. Upper rack holds small flattish items (small lids, spoon rests, extra flatware if needed). I explained why I load dishes the way I do (make sure arms are free to rotate, have dishes face center of dw, as water shoots up from the center, make sure there’s space between dishes, and scrape food (especially rice) off dishes because it will clog the filter). My job is to add detergent (I use liquid, about 1/2-2/3 full), run on eco, and unload when done. And clean the filter, etc, once a month (vitally important!).

But I forget when you're not a stay at home mom who wants to unload a washer when they get up or before they leave for work. IB wouldn't. You know the holes in the handles of those utensils that are too large/long for the utensil rack, but just a bit too short/small for the top rack? When you lay them down in the top rack, just place them so one of the tines goes through the hole in the handle. I've done it with several of mine, works great! Also good for dishwasher-safe measuring cups, too. Just make sure you don't over stack them or "nest" them.

my mom and dad say the plates go on the bottom and bowls on top and small plates on bottom and that's the only way. I can put small plates on top rack right, is there a right or wrong way

Netflix has a show Get Organised with the Home Edit and it’s absolutely satisfying to see them organise a mess and they’ve so many tips on storage and more! P.S. realised the comment is 6 years old and replying is pointless but it might help someone looking at comments in 2021 😅

What if you forgot to turn off the faucet where the inlet hose is connected, after the dishwasher has finished the wash program, will the hose burst from the extreme water pressure build up?

I can't get a consensus if my Bosch dishwasher really needs salt in the designated container. Yours is a Bosch. Do you add 1 kg of salt when the light goes on?

Dear Melissa, While cooking in my ceramic pan, I forgot about it and burnt the bottom. The pan has little divots at the bottom and it's filled with burnt debris. I have tried everything to get it off but nothing is working. Please help!

Melissa, I have a dishwasher with the same soap dispenser as yours. Mine no longer opens during the wash and I soaked it with vinegar to clean any debris. Do you have a solution? How else can I get the soap in at the right time?

Maybe call the manufacturer and let them know about this...sometimes they have a quick little fix for you. I don't know!

Im asian too. My parents always believed that handwashing saved more money. But when I took charge of the dishes I utilized our never used expensive dishwasher. Turns out it's the same amount of water, or a little less. But it saves me a lot of time to do other things like study, spending time with company and other chores that need to be done

Omg yeah Asians have expensive dish holders aka dishwashers. I on the other hand love my dishwasher. It only uses 4 gallons per load!

??? So you may eat lots of rice. I find rice leaves a layer of starch, so does pasta, I am Italian and eat pasta. You are not supposed to rinse the dishes before you put them in the dishwasher because that is wasting water.

So I just came here for tips regarding the cutlery . I have tines, spoons and (non sharp) knifes pointing upwards. Is that right? Because my housemates do it the other way and I am convinced they are wrong.

I have square plates and, more importantly BOWLS how the eff do I get them in my dishwasher without taking up the entire bottom rack. I've pretty much given up at this point unless you have some sort of reconfiguration of the racks. any ideas? 😢
