Wow!!!...I am SO glad that this video showed up on my suggestions list! I have been desiring more styles for a LONG time and now my prayers have been answered. You are an angel!
I happened by chance on your website which was about free styles, this was just what I wanted,I downloaded several of these and found them very interesting. I would like to thank you for your time and effort in putting this video together, i am sure you are helping lots of us throughout the world to enjoy our playing even more. I look forward to watching more of your video’s, once again many thanks from a young 82yr. Old.
Mr. Reece, First I like to wish you a happy exciting and healthy up coming New Year. I stumbled onto your video because I am a uneducated 84-year-old senior and a proud owner of a beautiful Yamaha Tyros 5 keyboard. I am constantly looking for knowledge about my keyboard and learning to play, there are so many knowledgeable, talented and expert instructors that are out there trying to help out a old happy codger like me. All these wonderful instructors knows their Tyros 5 subject inside out very well but are too fast for me to keep up and I have to constantly hit the repeat button to try to understand all the different buttons and switches on my Tyros to stay on the same page with them. You are the first wonderful and intelligent instructor trying to give me your knowledge that has the skills to teach a person looking to receive your knowledge. I didn't miss the click!!!!!!!!!! keep up the good work!!!!!!!!! You are awesome God bless you. Thank you very much. Rog
Thank you Morrie for sharing this info. You are absolutely spot on, when you say that for some pieces of music, finding the right sytle is essential. On some pieces, I have spent ages, and ages, trying to find something that fits, and some pieces I have temporarily shelved. Thank you so much, and also gratitude to those style producers who have shared their work. Blessings from England!
Had a Tyros for a while as I am a songwriter learning keys and guitar. This simple uncluttered practical presentation was great. Thank you so much my friend. Jules
Hello and a huge thankyou ❤ from across the pond. I’ve got the SX700, and have got a bit stale, just playing the same songs, and feeling frustrated I couldn’t find styles to match new songs I wanted to play. I think thou have just opened my eyes to endless possibilities… and all explained in a super clear way 👍👍👍
Morrie, you have done an exelent tutorial with every detail for beguiners like me, i just got a sx900 and im so glad that i founded you, thanks for what you are doing for so many people ,God bless you.
Hello again Morrie, at last, success after a lot of fiddling about I worked it out on my keyboard. Didn't know you had to press the D and then A and, bingo, it worked. Fantastic. Thank you again.
thank you so much for the video since having a stroke l have found having time on my hands l do play guitar and keyboards but since having the stroke l have lost about 20 years of memory and its slowly coming back but I do tend to struggle but as l say l am getting there I just wanted to thank you for your video its awoke some memories l had forgot about... all the best Allan in Stoke on Trent UK
I have a Genos 2 and before I had a Genos and Tyros 5. I'm anxious to see if the styles that you suggested to us are good. Thanks Morrie for your help.
Thank you for your quick answer Morrie! I thought I could ask because you showed some specific styles that go with certain songs. By the way, I saw in the PSR tutorial that Harrie T has grouped his styles by song name. That may provide some clues.
Kudos sir, thanks for this video. I bought a Tyros 5 not long after they came out but due to work and time pressures never really was able to get any great use out of it. Now I have given up working for a living 😁, I now am starting to get the use out of this marvellous instrument and at last starting to understand how to get the best from it. I kind of knew about the styles import but did not realise there were so many free. I am going to have great fun looking through that site you shared. Once again, thanks 👍and am looking forward to going through your RU-vid catalogue.
I sure hope I can find those styles Excellent I'm passing my tyros on to my son and getting a sx900 to replace it, I want him to enjoy the many years of peace you get from he tyros
You do a great job of explaining everything and the help to the web sights is also great. I have down loaded from the web and I can play from them. I go the next step of making a registration for songs that make .rgt file. It would be helpful to explain this process from .sty to .rgt. I have a Yamaha PSR SX-900. Thank you for the great videos.
Hi Morris thanks for your video. I achieved down loading and then storing them onto a memory stick that was eight years ago and using the styles on a psr 2000 that was upgraded with a floppy disc emulator it worked perfect I recently lost my thumb drive so had to start again Ive been doing as you say dragged the folder to the thumb drive and then inserted the thumb drive into the reader on the psr 2000 but they dont show up I formatted the thumb drive on the psr 2000 and then plugged it back into my Mac before dragging the files to the thumb drive
Thank you for your clear explanation. The reference to the site where you can download styles is also very nice. I have already been able to download a lot. I do have one more question: You mentioned at the beginning that certain songs sound best with certain styles. How can you search for styles for certain songs? Or vice versa; How can you determine which style fits which song?
You have asked the great unanswered question of keyboard players, namely, where do I find a specific style for a specific song. I wish I had a good answer for you, but I don’t. over the last 10 or 12 years I have stumbled upon styles built specifically for certain songs, and I latch onto them. I have probably looked at over 100 websites in my efforts to find styles for specific songs over the years.
Morrie you are a star,,,thank you for posting this video...I have a t5 and will definitely follow your lead here and download these styles...thank you so much sir.....
Morrie, Just come across this great demo. Last year I purchased a Tyrus 1 which is in mint condition and I'm thinking of adding a USB port, if I do this will I be able to use your knowledge and download some new styles. I noted during your instructions on how to find these styles they mentioned Tyros 1 so hopefully, I can some new styles. It's probably a bit too late now to think about another model as I'm 80+ but I get so much enjoyment out of this instrument especially with what is going on in the world at present. Thanks for a great demonstration so clear and easy to understand.
I enjoyed watching you playing and sound really good. Also thanks for taking the time to show how to get the styles for free from this site. I don't have the keyboard that has the USB to use beside the build-in styles but until then I know where to get the style. Thanks again!
I can't believe you bought a keyboard with only 25,870 style variations. I feel your frustration. -Any sufficiently advanced satire is indistinguishable from reality
I don't have a Mac, I've been trying for days to do what you showed and it don't work for me, what can I do now? When I plug the thumb drive it shows let say Latin, it does nothing. I would be so grateful if you could help.
Thank you so much for a great tutorial on accessing free styles, they have been a great help.Would it be possible to help me find the sympathy for the devil style you played, i have looked through the site but unable to locate it. I have just retired and treated myself to a used Tyros 3 and enjoying every moment. Thank you again from a snowy cold uk.
@@morriereece5007 Hi Morrie thank you for your reply, i have tried to send my email here but it will not work, is there any other way i can send it to you, sorry not very good at all this
Morrie - great job explaining how to access styles on PSR Tutorial which is an excellent site. Two quick questions: 1) In the beginning of your video you mentioned specific songs that you needed customized styles to recreate. How do you find those song/styles on PSR Tutorial. Do you have to download the collections and just search? 2) Are only the Style files with a .PSR suffix usable on a PSR board or are all the files from that site usable? I am specifically interested in using them on the more recent PSR SX700/900 models. Thanks.
Thanks Morrie Reece, very helpful.. 1 follow up question, most of these styles are of time signature 4/4 -- how do i identify or find other signatures like 3/4, 2/4 or 6/8?
The tutorials you give are fascinating, clear with lots of knowledge. I have the new Yamaha sx900 keyboard. How do I apply this tutorial to my keyboard ?? Thank you
I looked at th owner manual for your keyboard and it looks very similar to my Tyros 5 keyboard in terms of having a USB connection, so i'm very sure you can do what I do,,the keys are just located in a different place.
An E463 keyboard is much more limited. It can only play two part SFF1 styles and the Tyros plays the much larger 4 part SFF2 styles. I have put up a RU-vid that explains how to play some of the tyro styles in the E4 63 keyboard
I know of no way to export the sound of an E463 style, other than playing the style and recording the audio in a program like Gargeband on a Mac, iPhone or iPad.. Same for a sample sound..
Hi Morrie, Great video and I'm now a subscriber. Would it be possible to publish links to the fantastic styles you demonstrated, Another Brick In The Wall especially. Many thanks in anticipation, Kind Regards - John
Hi Morrie, I have read some further messages from people requesting a copy of these fantastic styles and you ask for their email address, here's mine, I really would appreciate them, theyre brilliant. johnb2713@gmail.com Many thanks, eternally grateful - John
Hello, and thanks for the detailed explanation. But you showed how to get the collections. You have not shown how to search for styles for certain songs. I didn't find it on the site you recommended. So from which site did you download the styles you demonstrated for the songs? Thanks!
Wow another great demo well done and explained.... I must go and have a look for my roland bk-5 styles ps i don't pay as well on my downloads there are many nice people out who help as you do... just a question I am not sure if I am reading my manual correctly I have only 61 keys yet in the manual it say 128 notes of polyphony? does this mean this double the size key board once programed? just changing or moving the octaves? as I am trying to try this out ??? any idea's .......best wishes Ken and Christine .......PS I am just catching up to people I subscribe too...
Polyphony refers to the maximum number of notes that an instrument can play all at the same time. Let's say I record a MIDI song with 16 tracks. Each track could play eight note chords, for a total of 128 notes coming out of my keyboard all at the same time.
polyphony tells you how many notes can your keyboard play/sound simultaneously. Let's say I create a MIDI song/file with 16 different instruments, each in their own MIDI track. If my keyboard can produce 128 notes of polyphony, that means each instrument/track could play 8 separate notes....8 times 16 equals 128.
HI Norrie. i would like to say thanks for this wonderful video.i have used the site in question and its wonderful to have so many styles to use .i notice you have a style called the voice for vangellis conquest of paradise .but i am struggling to find it ,any help will do .i appreciate your time and effort .Tom united kingdom.
sorry, I have no experience with your keyboard. I suggest you go to the Yamaha web site where you can ask questions of the Yamaha experts...go here....usa.yamaha.com/support/contacts/index.html#
Hi Morri. I've downloaded some of John Vernons free style collections. But unfortunately l can't seem to open them to listen to before l transfer them to a flash drive. Is there any audio with these styles to listen to in his collections? It would be nice to hear some and then download what we like. Many thanks again.
Hi Morrie, the free styles have extensions .prs or .sty. I can see them but they will not load off the USB. Yamaha styles for the psr sx series have the extension .rgt. Can you elaborate about the difference?
Hi Morrie, I have windows not Mac I've followed your instructions to the letter unfortunately when I load usb in my psr3000 it just says needs to be formatted first, what am I missing please help many thanks
Thank you very much for the tutorial. Every day I am learn ing new technics from you tube, I have 2 PSR arrangers, and I am exploring each one every time. Thank you . I have a you tube channel where I perform . It is under Manny Savoy. cheers
Hi Morrie, I like your videos very much. They ae very helpful for me as a new owner of Yamaha SX900. I have a question I hope you can answer. Is there any keyboard which can detect the style by playing an audio music then tell you the closest style the keyboard provides?
I doubt that any keyboard can do that. I have a Tyros 5 which is one of the most powerful keyboards Yamaha has ever made, and my tyros five can’t do that
Hello Morrie. First thank you for the tutorials you do for us. I bought a thumb drive and tried to download of the PSR Tutorial page like you did by it ended up zipped and yours didn't. Any idear's would be very helpful. I have a Tyros 5 as well but only play very easy music. Thank you in advance'
Very informative and useful video. However, I l did download a Christmas list from Drake and these "styles" seem to be for existing Christmas songs we all know. I thought they would be just "styles" in using Christmas-like instruments, etc.... Do you get what I mean? The styles in my Tyros 5 are just instruments and beats for different styles of music, not songs. Are they all like that on this website?
Hi Morris you are great to me you are fantastic how long have you been playing for well I am in the process of buying a Tyros 1Xl any advice would like to some advice from you if you got the time
Ameer, the psrtutorial web site ( www.psrtutorial.com/forum/index.php) has a forum with thousands of people sharing their knowledge about their Yamaha keyboards. Join that forum, and you'll learn a lot from people a lot smarter than me
Im so frustrated because my laptop refuses to allow me access to anywhere further than the collections page of the website. I cant access any of the collections. The screen just says 'cant reach this page'.
i just checked the web site and it's working perfectly. i have no idea what kind of computer you have, nor do I know what operating system you're running....but I would start by shutting down your computer....wait 30 seconds and reboot it. I am a retired Apple executive with 30 years experience at Apple, and rebooting cures a lot of ills. Do any other websites fail to operate correctly ?? Next I would reboot the wireless router in your home.
Morrie I have just followed your tutorial to the letter and downloaded the styles for my Tyros 4 onto my computer with no problem. However, when I inserted the USB into my Tyros it came up with all the folders I downloaded and I un`zipped them, but when I pressed for example, Ballad, it just came up as a blank page. I tried several folders from various names on the list, but only got a blank page when inserted into my Tyros 4. Your explanation of how to do it was excellent. So why wont the styles show up. Your help please. Joyce
Joyce...first, have you verified that there are actual style files in the folders when you open them on your computer ? They should have " sty." at the end of the style file name. Second, on your home page, are you selecting the "Style" button, and not the "Song" button. If you select "Song" you will see empty folders, because the "Song" button is used to load MIDI files, not style files.
@@morriereece5007 Thank you Morrie for replying to my problem. However, I have tried over and over again following exactly as your demo, but still only get the folders which state, for example, Ballad using the styles from the gentleman named Chris for the Tyros 4. I have 3 Tyros 4 keyboards, but again when I click on the folder in the keyboard, nothing shows up even though I can see them quite clearly on my computer and they all have the letters Sty after them. So frustrating. Maybe Yamaha has put a block on my keyboards so that they want the user to buy them, very much like the expansion boards, cannot copy expansion board sounds from one to the other. I think I will have to give up now. Thank you neverless for your excellent video on RU-vid.
joy bells. I suggest you contact Yahama support at: usa.yamaha.com/support/contacts/form.html?page=product Or join the Yahama support group at: www.psrtutorial.com/forum/index.php there are hundreds of VERY experienced Yahama owners here who can help you.
Your tutorials are fabulous! Since you know everything about the Yamaha keyboards, do you know how I could get a backing track for a specific song such as "Time is Tight"? Thank you!
Have got as far as downloading as shown in your video, and put folders onto usb stick. When put into Tyros 5 and click on file, opens up to songs but will not play, says "there is no app to support this file. Any ideas please.
I am confused by your description of the error you're having. A Tyros would not display the message "there is no app to support this file". A Tyros knows nothing about apps. That is an error message a Macintosh computer would display IF you clicked on a style file and tried to open it on a computer. A computer cannot "open"" or play a Yamaha style. I know of no Macintosh or Window computer program, or app, that can play a Yamaha style.
@@morriereece5007 Thank you Morrie, silly me, excuse am Senior Citizen often Computer illiterate. Now sorted, works perfectly. Thanks for useful, informative video.
Since your keyboard is about the same age as my Tyros 5 keyboard I'm pretty sure your keyboard is compatible with the same file format my Tyros keyboard uses.
