I think this has now sorted out the problem I was having. However, one thing you didn't mention was that your camera needed to be set to manual. It doesn't allow you to do this in auto. I will try tomorrow, fingers crossed.
My D300s does autofocus when AE-L/AF-L is enabled. This is done by pressing the AF-ON button at the back. I rarely use this because it is slow and produces lots of noise, instead I use manual focus. The D7000 is not equipped with an AF-On button because the camera provides full time auto focusing, with a variety of modes, during capturing. You can also focus on a particular subject by half pressing the shutter release.
It's confusing that it stays 50 @ F 3.5 yet the exposure changes at the beginning. This camera has never made any sense to me in video mode.. Changing iso while shooting doesn't seem to change anything in the video even though it appears to while filming...
