Actually Psychology Today has an article about recent studies showing that someone wearing horizontal stripes can look 6% thinner than someone wearing vertical stripes. The eye sees the horizontal stripes as taking up less space than the vertical. Very interesting! Google “Psychology Today and horizontal stripes” Here is an excerpt: “When two people are the same size, a person wearing a horizontal-striped dress appears to be the thinner of the two. In order for the them to appear to be the same size, the person wearing the horizontal stripes would have to be six percent wider than the person dressed in vertically-striped clothing.”

Like you, I was 5’6” in my youth, which was ok. Several years ago my height was measured and now I’m only 5’4”! It’s my age, 63, and perhaps the spine disease I’ve always struggled with. So, I really appreciate these tips, I always want to look taller, but can only wear heels up to 2.5” tall. Nor do I always want to wear those, if I have a lot of walking planned. This explained why I felt a bit chunky at a good BMI for 5’6”, so I lost weight to adjust to my new height.

Hi Kimberly, Wow! That’s a big shift in hight. But as you said, it’s quite common as we age. I’m also not a huge fan of very high heels. I found that I can get away with much smaller heel(kitten) and still feel great in my outfits. Even better to be honest. I think it has to do with just being more grounded and feeling comfortable with not trying to hard :) But I also appreciate when someone rocks a pair of very high heels and looks fabulous. To each their own.:) Thank you for sharing and for watching the video.

Hi Maria, thank you so much! I appreciate the sweet compliment. I’m a little hesitant because my skills are pretty basic. Not sure too many people would care to watch the video. I have done one in the past and it wasn’t very popular. But I’ll definitely thinking about it.
