I have Superfriends 1-3 in really high grade raw. I also have Hong Kong Phooey, Speed Buggy and a few dozen Hanna-Barbara early books/keys. Love to hunt them in the wild. Always show up!

Great show as usual. Let’s tell the truth. If you are a comic collector, you have lost money. Part of the hobby.

Nice war books. I have the complete run of OAAW (not in the condition you collect). I'm working on GI Combat, Our Fighting Forces, All-American Men of War and Star Spangled War Stories. Dino covers are basically #90 - 137. 91 and 93 are not Dino covers. I have all the Dino's (again not in the grade you look for). Keep up the great work!

I agree with something you said. If its not high grade (ie…9.8), it’s not worth sending it in (for modern). I only buy bronze/silver and have had great luck with your claim sales. REALLY good quality stuff I’ve bought from you. But, if it’s modern and not a 9.8…meh. I’m a hard pass.

Good stuff! One of the things that's not obvious about slabs is that they can actually reduce the resale value of most low-value books because slabs can't be easily transferred to the buyer. Unless it's a 9.8, or it's a $200+ comic in the raw to start, slabs are an albatross because of the extra space they takes up and their weight, both of which makes low-dollar value books (like anything under about $200) impossible for dealers to transport to shows (they take up 5 times as much space and weigh 5 times as much as raw books). Dealers can't take 2000 slabs to a show because 2000 labs would weigh 2,000 pounds, and they'd need 3 or 4 times as many tables. Local comic shops have limited floor space - they need to have a wide selection, and slabs would reduce the number of books they can have in their shops by 75%. Similar problem if they're being sold in claims sales, ebay, or comic link, because it costs 3 or 4 times as much to ship a slab as it does a raw book. Weigh a slab - it's nearly a pound! 4 raw books, including packaging are less than a pound which can be shipped first class for about $6... Whereas even 1 slab and its packaging is over a pound, which will cost $15 to ship that one book. The effect you're seeing with these very low slab price auction results may be due to the impact of postage costs - people are loathe to pay $15 to have a $15 comic shipped to them.

Good points, all true.

Lot a great art in the war and horror books. Such niche genres. Guess who listed some Stalkers the other day.

One way I definitely lose money "buying" comics is when I forget that I already have an issue and then end up buying it again later on for more money than I originally spent. I've probably done it a couple of times regarding my pc comics that I bought off the newsstand as a kid. Sometimes it's just that I want an extra copy and really liked the cover etc.
@futurepastvintagecollectables
I have done that too!

I love the pragmatic approach you both have to winning and losing in this game. I'm also so glad that the market is moving back to valuing raw books, rather than letting grading companies effectively siphon money based on the paranoia they've instilled in us.

Thanks for the information. Especially the discussions on Cream vs. White pages, etc. incremental values (which makes total sense). Keep up the great work - I have learned lots from you two. 😊

The 1970s was a gold mine of great, short run series for DC. You wish they would have run longer but then part of the allure is that they didn’t, if that makes sense. And, Weird Western Tales is a series I never looked at as a kid. Now, though I do not have many, I really dig that title.

I'm one of those war book and super friends collectors, lol. Great video, by the way. Those books are what I grew up on, so that's what I tend to collect. I currently have 3 long boxes of war comics alone, and i am always looking to pick them up, and since they aren't as popular, sometimes I can grab them for a decent price. As collectors, we tend to collect what we like. Thanks again!

I have 4 boxes of mint comic books sitting in my closet that I bought back in the early 90's...don't know what to do with them. Apparently this era of comics is not really desirable. If I can't get a fair price on them I may just donate them to a couple of children's hospitals in my area. Thank you for the video.
@futurepastvintagecollectables
We may be interested in buying those if you want to sell them. Shoot is an email (our contact information is in the video description) and we can go from there!

Great episode. Would you guys have any interest in doing a video on what bronze keys hold their value the most consistently? Just a thought that might makenfor a cool conversation. Love the show!

yea I would say it's ok to dump the lower grade slabs at a loss if you got credit card debt which is pretty high.....i'm doing that now to cut costs....it sucks but needs to be done...work in progress...

Slabbing books seems to really be best for keys. Common or small keys seem to be a waste unless you want it for your pc.

I love the claim sale but it just doesn’t work for me I hope you come up with a better platform. The disappointment of winning book after book to be told I didn’t get it caused me to give up. Still love the videos though keep up the great content.

Why put them on auction given the fees and the likelihood of someone taking it at such a low price?
