This video saved my day, Inna!! My vibrato got stuck recently after attempting to play without a shoulder rest. I'm trying to get my relaxed LH back and this video helped me so much!! Thank you!!

Wow Darlene, that is so awesome!! I'm so glad this helped you. Switching to no shoulder rest is very tricky for the left hand in all aspects!

Great tips for 3rd and 4th finger!!! As for moving the thumb...I didn't even know that was "allowed". ty!!!

Glad it helped!! So long as you maintain a good hand frame, it can be beneficial! Depends on the individual and situation in the music, of course.

Wow, great advice here thank you! I play without a shoulder rest too and while I don't squeeze the neck, I'd like to be able to create more space between fingerboard and index finger. I tried to figure out what movement you did at 6:15 to do that but can't quite get it to work. Do you have any tips for that or maybe a video? Thanks again. Simon.

I'm still working on this too. At first it takes a very conscious effort to remember to release by the index finger. With some hands, sometimes it's not possible to entirely remove the contact between index and fingerboard (also some instruments have thinner fingerboard which makes this a little easier), but the idea is to make the side of the index finger "mobile" (if that makes sense). At 6:15 I transferred more weight of the hand toward my vibrating finger, which allowed the release to happen

There is so much in common between guitar left hand and violin left hand technique, I suppose that's obvious.

I feel that guitar is a little more intuitive with vibrato =)
