You are amazing. I have done everything you just said before. It’s the recipe that works in my head so It’s nice to hear a Dr explain it so It registers as finite. Doctor, there was a study published recently showing that if one can maintain their new weight loss for at least one year then their body will adapt to the new weight. Did you hear about this?
@@weightloss007 My perception has been that the weight is "falling off" but it's been maybe a couple pounds a week. But I'm doing this without extreme exercise and "dieting" so it doesn't feel so stressful. It's been a complete game changer for me! :)
Simply KatieAnn I managed to loose 30lbs in the first 4 months on this medication. However, it very expensive if you get the brand. The combo pill may have a different effect. I've switched back to keto with Saxsenda now, that was a year ago and its helped me to get to 220lbs. I started at 278lbs when I posted this. So far I've stalled at 220lb
I haven't heard of Saxenda before. But Contrave has helped me A TON. It's helped my mindset so much and I'm losing weight without "dieting." I'd love to hear if you've tried it yet? Or are you still on Saxenda?
I went from 260 to 200 with wegovy. Insurance wont cover the wegovy any more and i went back up to 218. Starting contrave in the morning. I started lifting weights 4 months ago and i try to get 10k steps a day in. Thanks for the jnfo. If you stay at a lower weight long enough will that change the “set point” that your body wants to be at?
Yes it will come back. You can also take Maxi Hair Skin and Nails. It’s a mega dose of biotin. My hair thinned on Contrave. It came back after three months on the biotin supplement. I bought mine on Amazon.
I have taken contrave, and I lost 10 lbs in one month with diet. It gave me so many headaches I had to get off the meds. Also was making me loopy with the anti depressant. I had to get off it!

In the beginning, I remember feeling calmer than normal but, for me, that was a good thing. It felt good, almost like I was at peace and the stress of "dieting" finally went away. I don't remember feeling this sleepy, though. I know everyone has different side effects. Did you end up stopping the medication? I see this comment is from 2 years ago.
I am on contrave and have been on the full dose for 1 week now but I am not noticing a difference. in appetite... I still crave just as much as I did.... I have already been on 300mg of wellbutrin for over a year so I am past the honeymoon phase... about when (if ever) would someone like me start feeling the positive effects?
Thank you, Doctor, for your research and this instructional video. Currently I am on Welbutrin, Lamotrogine and Duloxitine. I also take Tramadol for for C3-C4 pain. What I found so interesting about your video is the fact I am on the combination you describe already, but in my case, the side effects of at least 3 are weight GAIN. I currently am on the Fit Day calorie counting regimen, but until seeing THIS, I never considered that the combination of these three drugs I am already taking separately, may help me LOSE weight. I'm on Lexapro and gained 30lbs within the past 6 months. I really need to be on an antidepressant, but I cant continue to gain weight like this. I have an appointment with my doctor on Thursday. Im 30 pounds heavier than I was at 9 months pregnant. What antidepressant works well for anxiety and helps with weight and one that I can take with weight loss prescriptions?
No I haven’t but I’m thinking about it....I took phentermine it worked I lost about a 1lbs a day (with exercise) but soon as I stop I gain it back... and the ups and downs were horrible but I want to try this... how long have you been on it and how much have you lost.

Is taking bupropion and naltrexone the same as taking the contrave I take bupropion already and was just prescribed naltrexone for alcohol cravings Doing my research on naltrexone I found out about contrave. So yeah just wondering if I should get the same affect? Also, my BMI is 30. I gained 30 lbs in last year and a half and very sad about the “set poi t theory”.
Why does phentermine have to be the first choice for anyone? If Contrave is just as effective at reducing weight as phentermine and less dangerous, why should anyone at all take phentermine?
Because it's cheaper. Insurance company doesn't really want to cover expensive drugs. That's where the prior authorization come in. They want to know if you've tried and failed the cheaper medications first before they pay for the more expensive drugs.
Everone's DNA is unique and we all respond differently. Phentermine has been on the market for many decades, is effective and inexpensive. Although my insurance doesn't cover it, thirty 37.5 mg tablets cost about $10. It speeds up your heart and raises blood pressure, so anyone with heart issues or hypertension should avoid it. Contrave has dangerous interactions with opiods/narcotics.
When I first started taking it, I remember feeling very calm, but I've heard a couple other people say it made them really sleepy. I'm curious if you're still taking it? And if so, how have you done on it?
Hi same here I've been on it a week and the first day I took it in the day time and I was kinda groggy and foggy so I started taking it at night right before I go to bed so I wake up fine no side effects and I'm up to two pills now
Question I had the sleeve done 5 years ago and now i have gained alot of it back. The doctor put me on contrave. I do not see how this is going to work due to the fact I still do not eat alot. I eat very little now, and still gain weight. Breakfast/Lunch i eat one piece of sausage and a biscuit and supper i get chicken breast usually half and one veg either potatoes or something green. I do not drink a lot of water it is usually coffee with creamer or some sweet tea. What is your thoughts?
I have one question I have type 2 diabetes an am 235 pounds I think I eat healthy but I just can get rid of this weigh that I have if I talk to my health care provider about contrave you think that she might prescribe it for me I take metformin for my diabetis an I do exercise for at least 30 minutes

started it today and maybe I've read too much into the side effects of Contrave. I'm really afraid of having a seizure. I've never had one but it said not to take the medicine with high saturated food. Does that mean like don't eat a bunch of bacon cheese burgers or literally means just eat the minimum of saturated fats...Of course I am watching that for my weight loss.
Anna DeLozier I'm terrified of all of the side effects too. In fact, today is my first day on it. I feel really tired, kind of loopy, and tiny, tiny bit nauseated...kind of like a hangover minus the headache. I am a school teacher and can't be loopy or tired so if it continues, this won't be for me. I'm going to give it a week. Some people said first day was rough but got better after that. I keep seeing the horrible side effects written everywhere in large letters..."violent outbursts, suicidal thoughts, mood changes, seizures" etc..The only reason I'm trying it is because I've read 100s of testimonials of people who love it and have been successful. My plan is to only use it for shortest amount of time possible. Just need a jump start then I can discipline myself. This drug doesn't bring weight loss but rather helps control cravings. By the way, my maiden name is DeLozier. :)
@@sarahconnor4757 Contrave doesn't make the fat melt away, but it helps shift your mindset and help with your relationship with food, or at least that's what it's done for me. I was stuck in the extreme diet and exercise cycle of lose some, then gain it back plus more each time. That's just not a way anyone can live or sustain weight loss, in my opinion. This medication has helped me A LOT. I'm just curious if you ever started it and what your results were like?
Is phentramine the go-to prescription? And contrave is merely an alternative only if phentramine isn't an option? I am obese, but fortunately have no health issues. All of my blood work comes back 100% within the normal ranges. I don't have heart problems, diabetes, or anything else like that. I'm not on any daily medications. The only things I use are ibuprofen for headaches (and a combo of ibuprofen and acetaminophen to stop a migraine when it first starts) and I have the Mirena IUD to prevent pregnancy. I appreciate any insight you'd be willing to offer, although I know you can't give me specific advice. I'm merely looking for generalizations. Thank you!
Ana Avalos ik this is late but I've taken both lost weight on both the phentramine made me gain 2x it back and contrave I did it all the right way, exercised, ate right, smoothies etc. And I even got pregnant and with contrave I didn't gain any weight back which is awesome still a year later still at what I lost but still wanna go more. I have a question. I was prescribed contrave. However I am already on Effexor xr 37 mg. My nurse prac who prescribed it said it was fine to take with contrave . Although I'm a bit nervous to take another antidepressant. Can I get your thoughts on the subject?
Whitney cantrell I know this is late but I just saw that she didn’t get back to you. This is what I do when in ur predicament, you can always look up drug interactions on the web or my favorite thing to do is call up the pharmacy & ask the pharmacist if there’s any drug interactions. That way they look it up for u. That’s why it’s best to stick with 1 pharmacy for all ur meds. That way if there’s an issue they can spot it. They can fail at that from time to time so it’s best if you ask. Hope that helps.
Effexor 37mg is nothing, the therapeutic dose for effexor is something like 150mg.. so taking 37mg plus another lowish dose of a 2nd antidepressant makes sense, it is a thing.
Thanks for video. I lost weight and then kept it off for 13 years without thinking about it I just learned how to eat.. but then I got on mood meds and weight became an issue ever since.. I added Wellbutrin and stopped gaining weight but didn’t loose neither and I added Remeron and still Wellbutrin helped me not go up on weight any longer but can’t loose weight. I’m on 450 mg of Wellbutrin so I asked my doctor to add the other component of this medication you are talking about. Do you think that if this combo helps me and I eventually get off the mood meds that made me gain weight I can be an exception to the rule that the weight loss medication is for rest of life ? Can a patient who changes lifestyle dramatically be an exception to this lifetime decree ? Specially if he had success in past without meds
Also wondering if naltrexone makes one be unable to benefit from new drog esketemine bcs is kind of a narcotic, perhaps just on days one takes esketemine one can skip naltrexone .. looking forward to doctors to start using esketemine spravato and hopefully some news psychodellic meds will be available soon jhu is researching that

+wendi stewart-rodriguez I would do either Atkins, South Beach, or if you want to count calories then get the myfitnesspal app for your phone. it will track your calorie intake during the day and is really easy to use. If Contrave did not work you may want to talk with your physician about phentermine. GOOD LUCK!!!
I've been taking it for about 4 months now and I wouldn't say my "cravings" have all disappeared. BUT, it's helped me manage them better. I used to get a craving and would BINGE on whatever the craving was and eat until I was so full I couldn't move and felt sick. I haven't done that at all since starting Contrave. I think it's just what I needed to finally figure this weight loss thing out. I'm having great results without "dieting." Did you ever start it? I see this comment is from a year ago....
@@chickwitthagoodies I initially lost 30 pounds in about 6 weeks, but it's really just a tool. It's not a cure all for weight loss, as I'm finding out. I will say, I stopped taking it at one point and gained most of it back and have since restarted it. Really, it's helped me the most mentally and with my moods. I think it should be taken alongside counseling or therapy of some kind (my opinion), which is what I will be doing this time around. Hope that helps! 😊
Thanks for the tips,I like your videos. I just started taking phentermine a week ago, what is the difference in the color of phentermine,I had a friend who had some and theirs was more white with blue specs but mine I got from weight loss clinic ate more blue with white specs.
+Mary Nelson There are different manufacturers of phentermine because it is a generic medication. If you are both on the same dose then most likely they are made by different manufacturers, This information is usually present on the label of your prescription bottle. Phentermine comes in both tablets and capsules as well.
Can someone please help me I have been taking contrave for 2 months now and have only lost 5 pounds what is going on what should I be doing. Or what I'm not doing???
I also just was prescribe Contrave and got a call for the pharmacy that is not covered and the cost is $90, now being that those are the two drugs it would be great to get it like that, i will ask my doc if he can do that, after knowing more and more about how this works, have you had any success with weight loss?,
+Bonnie90505 yes, I've lost about 20 pounds in the last month and only had VERY MILD side effects the first few days I began taking it. She prescribed me bupropion 150mg xl and 25mg naltrexone which I take in the morning. She originally wanted to increase the dosage but I'll remain at this for the next three months and we'll revaluate at our next appointment. But discuss all this with your doctor.
