@@casey8836 hmmm. If you lubed it properly like I show in the video you shouldn’t have any problems. If you overlubed it grease will sling everywhere and ruin the clutch pads so that’s probably what happened or you had a bad clutch in general.

If you have a cheap Chinese centrifugal clutch with a steel bushing, I guess you can use grease. But using grease means you will have to take clutch off every time you need to re grease it. Basically a waste of your time as the grease does not last. If you upgrade to an American made clutch like a Max Torque or a Hilliard clutch you never use grease. Using grease on a "oilite" clutch bushing renders it useless. A oilite bushing is a oil impregnated bronze bushing that needs 30 weight motor oil or equivalent. The bushing releases oil as it heats up. You can oil the bushing while the clutch remains on the bike either inboard or out board, simply apply a couple of drops at the snap ring. For inboard clutches I use a flexible oil spout. Every 2 hours of clutch use is usually recommended. Once in a while you;ll need to remove clutch to clean it of dirt and grime that accumalates in the shoes and drum. Only use WD 40 to wipe off shoes and drum. If a slight ridge is present in the drum use some fine sand paper to smooth out the drum. Spend your time riding, not greasing a clutch.

My Coleman 200 has a needle bearing instead of a bushing. It already had some grease but I added more after running it a while and learning of the need to lubricate it. The owners manual says to oil it, but it’s almost identical to a chainsaw needle bearing so I applied more grease and that will last much longer than oiling it. I would guess it would last 50 to 100 yours. We’ll see. I’ll check it often. The jack shaft bearings needed a little extra grease so I popped the covers off them and added. Should be good for many hours.

@@-SF1- You have a upgraded clutch with a needle bearing and yes, by all means grease it. A bushing takes oil and a bearing gets greased. I'm going to assume the owners manual is referring to the clutches with the bushings. The needle bearing is a big upgrade and the grease will last many hours. You have a good handle on what you are doing, most don't even know to pop the seals off the jack shaft bearings and apply more grease. Thanks for watching.

@@beaubrummelmotorizedbicycles So the clutch is an upgrade if it has a needle bearing? Wow, the plot thickens. Supposedly it had only been ridden three times lol. I bought it for my son for $500 and its a 2020 model. It's growing on us. Surprised it has an upgrade.
@beaubrummelmotorizedbicycles
@beaubrummelmotorizedbicycles 2 года назад
@@-SF1- If it isn't a upgrade then I'm impressed with the manufacturers of the Coleman 200 for stepping up and putting a more expensive clutch on. Usually they don't do that because the extra money is their bottom line (profits). I am going to assume the Coleman 200 has a 196cc or a 212cc, 3/4 bore crankshaft on it. Or the previous owner knew about clutches and bought the needle bearing clutch and put it on, knowing it will be easier to maintain.

is it fine to ride if my clutch is missing the two alan keys that tighten it down they flew off when i was riding once and just havent put any more on so im hoping its okay😅
@Guido19
@Guido19 6 дней назад
I would recommend getting them cause its another safety thing that you should have but it mainly stops it from sliding back and forth but if its not really sliding you should be fine. most high end clutches don't even have them.

Just a creative criticism, for a video like this maybe an overhead steady shot would be better than such a moving camera. Food for thought. A work table/bench with an old towel on top. Thank you for the clutch info!

Also it’s called a “key” and “key way” for the notch in the shaft and in the clutch. Not trying to be a jerk, just sharing knowledge.

Can I use 10w 30 motor oil for it?

That should work! I would recommend doing that and getting it in a little oiler and oil the shaft of the clutch after every ride. I would recommend still greasing it though.

You forgot to put the chain back over the clutch sprocket before you put the clutch back On!

I know! I was just doing it for video purposes. Also you can put the clutch on first and then the chain after cause there is enough slack

Yep! Mine did that as well! Grease it and you should be good! If it still does it you might need a new one as the pads might be messed up where it’s engaging too fast or it’s stuck
