Great Video! No nonsense and straight to the point. Too many vids on YT are made by people who like their own voices too much. This is perfect and to the point!
this will be useful for me as im a boater with a disability and this will help me service these outboards as im an ex marine mechanic I knew a lot on the older Mercs but the newer ones will be all learning at first but I knew what to fix on them if I learn to do them motors myself as I knew the insides of these outboards this was a good learning tool for me hope to learn a lot in the future on these outboards this was really good materials as im learning all the time now in outboard care
Thanks for the video! I just bought another Boat and it has a 2008 Mercury Optimax 200. Im not a mechanic but I like to be able to do my own maintenance. Thanks for the Tips!
I have the Mercury 115 but its not optimax. Maintenance is the same as this video correct? The only thing that looks different is the fuel filter. Its an 06.
I have a Mercury Optimax 2 Stroke 150 (2007-8) that does not have the “red top” fuel filter and I am having trouble finding a video to replace the fuel filter on my O/B. Any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated.
Yes! I would suggest following the fuel lines in the boat to find the "boat fuel filter." Then there should be a fuel filter on the VST that has a water sensor attached to the bottom. I just published an optimax video about troubleshooting. Look at that to see how to split the cowling to service the engine and change the fuel filter! Hope this helps!
Please ignore this guy taken that fuel filter out with a damn screwdriver. Terrible advice. Quit being cheap and pay the $20 for the proper tool. You will end up breaking those red tabs more than likely and then your in deep. Get ready to spend an hour chiseling away at the filter to get it out. Not to mention you better not s ore that aluminum casing.
