while clearing a granparent's house, we found a few that were never oiled and are now dried up and even rotten beyond saving. thx for showing me how to take care of those that are still good!

I like to have a rag lighty soaked in baby oil to clean my tools each time I put them away. It is mineral oil and doesn't spontaneously combust. Added benefit, it cleans my hands too.

I have some mineral oil. I'll have to give it a try. Thanks for that tip. 👍

Sound advice. On another note, if you do have a tool handle break on you, replace the handle - not the whole tool. Thanks for the video!

Yes! The handle is pretty easy to replace. A lot of times we tend to just buy a new tool instead of just fixing what's broken. 👍

Thanks! Helpful video! Do you also clean them off each time you use it? If so, how? I was thinking about using a wet wipe, do you think that'd be okay to use on it daily? Or do you have a better idea? It's often muddy here when I use the garden tools.

Should you pore some linseed oil down at the bottom of the opening at the bases of the shovel and let it seep in to the bottom part of the handle

You sure can. 👍

I soak the ends in kerosene , as long as possible to lubricate the wood fibers, that wood grain responds like a wick while soaking

Interesting. I haven't heard of that. Makes sense though.

Why your shovel so short? Crouching Farmer Hidden Potatoes? 🤔

On the plus side of wadding up your cloth and letting it burst into flame you may at least get heated up a bit. You look freezing today.
