I started my business in November of last year as a vendor in a local “mall” for small businesses. The first month I made 50$ in sales, the next 75, then 100, then 150, all the way up to my biggest sales month of 300$. I’m really excited for fall, since this is slow season for candles, to see how much I can sell!

i just did my first pop up market event 2 weeks ago and it was a great experience! But i wanted to share some additional tips on how to grow your revenue outside of pop up markets and online sales: 1. Find b2b clients: figure out what kind of businesses would be benefitted by your candles (or whatever other products you sell) and sell it to them in bulk. For example, spas, hotels, cafes, you name it. This will increase your volume of sales per month and once you're locked in as their supplier, you will get a stable income from it every month. 2. Do consignments: its hard to have an offline presence if you dont have a store or cant do markets as often. This is where consignments come in because your products are displayed at various locations and again you will get a recurring income every month. There is a consignment fee (usually 30%) but i think if you price your products correctly, you should still be able to make a decent profit from it. hope this helps!

Sounds great in theory, but I did the farmers market in a tourist area all last year where I make all my own products, and have never sold over 10 candles at a market. Room sprays do better than the candles.

There definitely can be a lot of different factors that can affect sales! My candle making friend makes around $2,500 per market 😮 whereas we usually make $500-$900 on average!

Thank you for making this video. I've only ever made candles for my own use, but I've been studying the process and watching videos like yours for over a year now. I would like to make candles to sell, but I have a full-time, on-site office job, so I always feel discouraged when I think of all the details involved in starting a flourishing business. This video is important for people like me - those who will never be quitting their day job to make candles, but would still like to make enough money to bolster a savings account. Bravo.

The things you have shared has helped me have success (according to my standards) at vendor markets and I’m excited as to how things are going!! My first market was April 13th and my net sales as of today are $5181.90!! Pricing and presentation is key. KEEP GOING EVERYONE!!! Thank you, Erica!!!

This is so practical! It's a great way to break it down for a business getting started. All the markets near me are farmer's markets and require it to be stuff from your own farm but I do other local events. I'd really like to do more, they're so fun. A LOT of work but fun! :)

I spent a few grand on equipment, vessels, labeling, packaging, fragrances, vessels, etc. thinking I could replace my job since I've seen a few videos where people are making $250k - $500k making candles but then I saw your other video the other day where your candle retail business brought in like $30k or something. Wow! I hope I can make more 😆 Btw I did my 4th test candle process and this time am keeping better track of everything such as wax used, wicks, fragrance, vessel, etc. and poured 20 candles, ten different vessels and wood and cotton wicks and 10 fragrances to trial and your video on the math made it so easy and fun and I was blown away how precise I could make the candles using your water x .86 formula. Thank you so much!

I wrote a PHP program for myself on my website where I can enter all details of each material including tax and shipping to me and it will show me each cost per item. Also I made it so I can add a candle and select everything I use including packaging and it will tell me how much the candle costs me to make. My 8oz tin candle with Beeswax, Soy, and coconut, is costing about $10.50 to make. I can't sell them for $40+ so I hope to be able to buy more in bulk and maybe cut down on my nice custom boxes and tissue paper, etc. Anyway thank you for the videos and I wish you the best with everything 😊

Hi Erica! I’ve learned so so much from you these last few years and after launching my candle biz in October, I was just accepted in a located boutique and they’re going to carry my candles! I’m super excited about that! I just have a question for you, how many candles/melts should I bring for my first inventory? I asked but she hasn’t responded so I don’t want to bring too many😂

Hi Erica I love your videos & thanks so much for all of your help! I was wondering in your breakdown for COGS, $3.50 x 4 + (15%) =16, what does the 4 stand for? And for testing should I use tins or actual full size vessels? I’m thinking about the cost of shipping.

In order to sell $500 worht of candles you have to have that much inventory. No brainer right? But I hadn't thought about how time consuming it is to make candles in the beginning. I plan to launch by November. That means I need to create inventory that will be available by then. So I thought your 4-6 scents, 6 each formula would be a good one to follow. But how to a launch a line in November and still appeal to a holiday market if all I have is 6 scents to work with?

What is booth fee
@chaos42207
@chaos42207 2 месяца назад
I would love your opinion. I have been working hard on getting into as many events as I can. With that being said, I have the opportunity to go to one just shy of 2 hours from home. It is a 2 day event in November. It is a big holiday event they do. Keep in mind, my daughter and I officially launched in April. The events we have done so far have been no more than $75 for a booth fee. I have one in July and Aug that will be 2 day events for $150. This one is $350 for the event. It is near a college town, very populated area. I figure I will have to get a hotel as it is all day events 9am- 8pm. How can I determine if it is the right event for us at this time. I figure, it will be at least $600 between hotel the booth fee and food MINIMUM. My wife offered to tag along and help with the event. I am all for it, just worried as that is a large break even number when it is more than double any other fee I will have paid to date. Then trying to figure the amount of product is another hassle for this size event. Any advice is appreciated
@WanderingPinesCottage
@WanderingPinesCottage 2 месяца назад
I'm not Erica but I can help a bit. It sounds a bit high for 2 days but it could be worth it. It might cost that much due to high demand to be a vendor and that it's a really great event. Is there a way to see the vendors or pictures from past years of this event? I think if I had the money to do something like that, I would! Go into the event thinking about it also as a marketing opportunity and not just what sales you NEED for it to be worth it. Though if it's a complete bust for you and other vendors, don't do it again. lol Getting your product in front of people is so important. You might not make as much as you'd like but you've advertised yourself to a whole new group of people and you never know what may come of it. You could get wholesale accounts (if that's a way you want to go), You could get customers coming back to find you online to purchase or looking for you at other events. I've had store owners find me at events and want to have my products in their store. You just never know what could happen! There are some great vendor groups on Facebook that I'm in that are very helpful too!

I don’t know how you can make a candle for $3.50. That’s not realistic for a small home based business. Specially if I don’t have a local supplier. Explain to me how you can make a candle for $3.50 and what is the size of that candle.
@mrscchow-hi7uh

We can make a lot of money theoretically, and I make a video about it and then earn RU-vid dollars. 32 candles each market?! What about the month of the year? No one's buying candle in extreme heat. A lot of the time these markets are outdoors and it could be a complete wash due to rain. The reality is many vendors are losing money rather than making any by doing markets. The only people making money here is you.
@chaos42207
@chaos42207 2 месяца назад
Thats not entirely true. I am newer to Candle making but have been in several events since our officially launch in April and each one I am bringing in money. I am in a MUCH SMALLER area than most so I am profiting around $150-$250 at the small 1 day events I have done so far with 2 day events coming. There is a lost of accusations and uncalled for remarks on your end of things and it is quite a sad thing to see.
@mrscchow-hi7uh

@@chaos42207 thank you for proving my point. Not even you are making $500 for each market. No one is consistently making that amount in each market they do. She has to pop out a video each week, that's her business model irrespective of whether the content makes sense or not. Americans lack the critical thinking skills and she is milking on that 😊
@chaos42207
@chaos42207 2 месяца назад
@mrscchow-hi7uh she never said 500 each event. Clearly someone didn't listen. You are too full of hate and ignorance to actually listen to the video.
@chaos42207
@chaos42207 2 месяца назад
@mrscchow-hi7uh spoiler alert she breaks the $500 into 2 events. Something which as I already said I have made. I have surpassed $4000 in sales our first month so it is ENTIRELY possible. The difference is people that want it and work for jt and those that want to blame others on why they can't do it. I have done 2 events this month, each were about 4-5 hours and I took home $450 in profit after them. That's after booth fees, after my production costs, fuel, etc so entirely possible. All in a town of less than 10k people. Stop making excuses and if you want the business to work, put in the work.
@MemoryBoxCandleCo
@MemoryBoxCandleCo 2 месяца назад
@@chaos42207 thank you so much for providing your personal experience! I know SO many makers who make way more than $250 in profit at each event so I thought this was actually very reasonable! Also, I used one candle as an example when many makers have multiple size candles, wax melts and other products that create diversity and allow for more sales! It’s absolutely possible but I figured there was nothing I could do to change this persons mind, especially since they seem to have hate towards me and other Americans 😅 Also way to go!! It sounds like you’re doing great! ❤️
