bro so many glide videos technically show you how to glide but always feel weak and like super stock, but this video finally gives me what i've been looking for, and its been like multiple years trying different techniques and never being satisfied, thanks!
Glad you found this helpful! I do have another method that isn't as in depth but works well for quick slides if you don't want as precise controls. It kinda works almost like the method in fl but slightly different. Could make a video on "the quickest method for ableton 808 slides" if that would help to. I'll often use the 2 in combination as the other way is quicker but the way on this video is more in depth
🤣 my bad..... it was literally the second video I ever recorded in my life. I wanted to thoroughly explain what I did and make a beat. I need to add chapters so that people can just skip to the information they want I think
@@skmakesbeats nah its fire bro. I literally just made my first ever drill beat to this tutorial and the thing is that when I came to watch this video I wasn't even expecting a tutorial, just a 808 guide 😂 keep up the hard work bro 💪
I also forgot top mention that you are literally one of the best Ableton RU-vidrs out there! whenever I search up tutorials, 90% of them are all FL studio so its great to have more Ableton goats like you🔥
@@dmzbeats9981 thanks! I appreciate that..... there's so many fl guys out there, and part of the reason i started making videos was to hopefully provide the same kind of help to ableton users
Glad it helped. I plan to do an updated video for ableton 12 at some point as there's a few faster ways then this that I find easier to... Although this way features the most control over the glides still
Fucking finally a definite, updated clear and concise video. I have been wasting so much time on that glide time bullshit before finding this. Liked and subbed.
Thanks.... yeah this is way better then the glide function, takes a little time to do though. If there's anything else you need help with lemme know and I can possibly make a video on it!
@@skmakesbeats i have previously tested the method you showed in this video (but like i said, the other videos i heard about the note expression method from were much worse than this). The problem was that since i suck at Ableton i was unable to judge which method is actually better. You know the good old Dunning-Kruger effect, when you know too little to be able to know what you dont know. Actually the thumbnail alone convinced me to click since there was a clear "this dude actually has an oppinion on which is better" feel with the X's over the glide time and extra notes. As a somewhat beginner this is something that bothers me about music in general. Since music is art, everybody is bought into the "nothing is correct/its preference/one is not better than the other" mantra. And i get it, but then its very hard for someone like me to know what i should spend my time on since everybody is afraid of taking a position. Yeah sure, i bet somebody could maybe disagree and make a good argument for the other method, but i appreciate that you have an oppinion and make reasonable arguments for it. Just some rambling thoughts. Im gonna let the good be shared and show this to my friend who has been struggling with the same problem.
Thanks I appreciate the share. This video was only my 2nd ever video I recorded (I have only been doing youtube for 4 months now). So the fact people find it useful really means a lot to me. I think the reason why there is so many pitch bend and glide method videos around is because the note expression tab was new for ableton 11 (which only released in 2021) so previously to that there was only the other ways. It does take a long time to do the glides in comparison to the way people do them inside FL studio, but the level of control on the note automation is amazing. I find this method works really well with a little practice......its also great for recording like long leads like westcoast synth leads.....or long strings and using it to pitch bend them melodically (think like old westcoast beats or like scott storch used to do with middle eastern style strings)
Thanks for the sub. I have another video on glides showing another technique which is a little faster to ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Exiw2qMmeXY.html
Thanks glad it helped.... There's actually a faster way that I found on this video here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Exiw2qMmeXY.html
@@darcsiderOps I have added chapters to make it easier to navigate..... In hindsight I could have structured this video better... It was literally the second video I ever made and was uploaded on the first day of my channel. But hopefully you got something out of it 😀
Yeah that's a fair point. This was literally the second video I've ever recorded, so I think I've learnt a fair bit since this video. If I were to make it again I think I would have the rest of the beat ready to go and just show the glides and the finish it from there. I will go back into this and add chapters today though to make it easier to navigate
@@skmakesbeats it really helped me bro ive watched soooo many vids but came back to urs and was great cos ur actually passionate about making beats which helps ...keep going bro 100000% nuf respect from LONDON UK ✊🏾🙏🏾
Thanks...I'm glad that comes through in the videos. I do have a video on another (easier) way to do awesome glides in ableton, it doesnt give as much complete control as this way, but I use it for 90% of my glides....the YT algo never really picked up the vid so it went a little unoticed. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Exiw2qMmeXY.html You can check it out here though
@@skmakesbeats It’s just me a guy who makes music - righting lyrics- MCing- creating content and trying being creative bro, I’m on my building process trying to do something creative you know… Thanks for asking bro
@@skmakesbeats And with that being said, I have some different characters / creators with different styles and content on going that I want to put out and why not collaborate with other creative people as well to finally get on the level of a label. P. S. I’m based in Greece, Sparta
That's cool, I would love to visit Greece one day. So much history I would love to see. If there's ever any beats you see in my videos you would be interested in using drop me a message over on Instagram
Thanks, glad you found it helpful..... This was a video that was uploaded on my first day of RU-vid, it was the second video I ever recorded.... I think I've slowed down a little in my more recent ones.... Although I'm not so sure 😂
Hi thanks for the feedback. So basically if you go on your drum rack tracks (in the mixer view and expand it) and right click on each one you can select extract chain which will basically add that drum sample into its own drum rack on a seperate channel. if you this video from my channel (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-d59-gv842TQ.html) from the chapter labelled structuring you will be able to see how i do it, it happens about 10:50 in the video I am planning on adding this tip and many others as short form content to :D
Just to add a little more to that, after extracting them all i have then placed them into a gorup which i labelled as drums....by highlighting each individial one and selecting group tracks, then renaming the group to drums
I would like to know the same thing. there was a response on here last night I just didn't get to reading it all I was mad tired. what happened to those comments??
I think a lot of the percs in this one if I remember right are actually sounds from splice. I do have a free drum kit dropping soon though that will have similar sounds that I have created specifically to use in my own beats
Thanks for the sub.... Hope the video helps. I actually found a different way of doing 808 glides which is a bit faster to ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Exiw2qMmeXY.html
What I like to do personally is have an ableton utility on every track by default with -6 gain I find this gives me enough headroom to get the kick to bang with a combination of transient shaping shaping and soft clipping and/or limiting.... if I were then to want the volume higher for a release I then use a combination of saturation, compression and limiting on the master until it hits the luf amount I'm aiming for with the dynamics I want
Working on the master channel as you suggest would you keep the utilities at -6db and take the gain from the master or turn them off? Thanks, I had the same question as the original comment.
@@Username-tw2li I don't remove any gain on my master channel, just on the individual channels to get headroom to level everything correctly without causing distortion. If you can get your mic correct the master is where you can bring the overall levels back up using things like compassion, soft clipping and limiting
HELLO I have ableton 11 and with the note expression i only have one bar selected and i cant seem to do a dot to dot with other notes like you could instead i have to hold alt and can only draw a messy line up.could you help ?
Hi, have you made sure that the grid is on a smaller division, for instance set your grid to 16ths or 32nds, you should then be able to place points on any section of the grid
@@skmakesbeats I tried changing it to 16ths and 32 but is doing the same thing. its only selecting one note which high lights the bar in grey and I cant glide it to the next note. so im very confused why it doesn't work. do I need to have a certain plug in ?
@@barrypeace9257 no, it's a feature built into ableton. You don't need 2 notes drawn just the one for each place you want an 808 slide and then when you click on the drawn note in note expression it just allows you to draw up and down from it. I do have an easier method for slides releasing in a video this evening 6pm BST though which might help
choosing the right 808 can be key, make sure it a long one. However I do have a much easier way that I discovered after this that I mainly use which you can see here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Exiw2qMmeXY.html
Did you switch before the note expression tab method became a thing or after? And what daw did you switch to? ....... I personally love ableton for a lot of reasons, and whilst I think glides are faster in FL I think the note expression can make more advanced ones even if it can take longer
Yeah I think people need to just find what fits they're work flow. For me personally there's things I would miss to much from ableton if I were to switch to something else. Fantastic music can be made in all modern daws........ can't say I wouldn't love a strum feature like fl has in ableton though!
@@hjkhhjkh3635 I believe that's murder melodies which is an effect plugin. The choir is from a plugin called heat up 3 by initial audio (the skin I use on it is green and black)
No problem, and yeah I'm new though to youtube, only started this a few months ago, this was actually the 2nd video I ever made. Glad you got something out of it
Whilst there is a cook up in the video there ya a section explaining the glides I have added chapters to make it easier to navigate. The glides are at 6:04 In all honesty this could of been structured better, it was the second video I ever recorded (and that's recorded most just uploaded) so was completely new to me. But I'll take this into account for the future
