The reason we did the video was because the 2002 and 2003 engine are hard to come buy and cost more than a thousand dollars extra than a 2004 2005 or 2006 because they are hard to find.

I done the motor swap but didn’t realize my original motor was ngc and the donor is jtec but it runs completely normal wit the ngc tone wheel and the jtec reluctor but won’t rev past 2400 and act like the crank sensor is bad I also have the proper reluctor ordered through airram

I have an 2003 liberty motor and I'm being told that it wont go into a 2002 liberty your video makes it sound like 02 and 03 are interchangeable

just a little heads up to help a install go smoother. there is a collar in the flywheel side of the crank shaft you must remove to fit the earlier model years.

It will bolt up they are the same . I have seen where people do not take out the pilot bearing for the clutch and therefore think it does not work .We have done many of these with no problems.

Yes that is correct a 2002 and 2003 are there own breed but they interchange as a long block with no problems.

I have a 2005 Jeep Liberty v6 37.1 I change the water pump I change the spark plug it still won't stay cranked unless I keep my foot on the gas I took it to the mechanic shop to ask him to put a crankshaft on there he said it wasn't no need because the engine was gone is that true

It is because there is a pilot bearing in the end of the crank. Take it out and you will be fine.

Can you just use the ecu from 2005 lerado and install it in the 2002 liberty? Instead of tearing engine down to exchange ring and gear.

if u buy an 04 engine u have to use the part that bolts into the engine from the 02 engine and it will fit

I have an 02 I bought new for the wife. Just turned over 30k miles on it because she doesn't use it a whole lot. My question is two fold. Is it a question of when this engine will blow not if? I mean is a new motor in my future if we keep this? hi, i have liberty jeep 2001 limited edition the engine does not fire and it three of the plugs soak oil. i have change the fuel pump, service the nozzles, check the coils, check the valves but the problem still remain. one repairer suggested changing the brain box while another buying of new engine. i don't know what to do please someone should help me

Kevin. I have a 2002 3.7 Liberty 3.7 and the right cam wheel has jtec stamped on it. I also have a 3.7 from a 2003 Liberty and the right cam wheel is also stamped jtec. Does that mean that I can put the 2003 engine in the 2002 as is?

I'm in the process of putting an 06 engine in an 03, but im going a different route and swapping the wiring bundle, the ECU and fuse box, ect... I'm down to the security/ICM to get ign spark, but since none of the wire colors match up its kind of a headache. Disassembling the motor probably would've been easier now that i I'll look back at it.

Ok but the crankshaft for 04 and up having a different diameter for the torque converter to match up to the flywheel

04,05,06 used engines cost the same as 03 and 02 so why would anyone care? This guy is right though this is all covered on jeepkj forum. The only hard part about swapping yourself is the transmission disconnect because the converter and clutch disconnect procedures. They are covered in the Chilton book though. You can do Dakota and 1500 engines in to liberties too and automatic and manual engines are the same. Watch out for the oil pumps failing on these engines.. Even aftermarket. Engine killer.
