Some skill here. I had a go and blew tho straight away. Lead running everywhere. It's unbelievable difficult thing to do.

Sounds like you had your flame way too hot. Next time you try it. Turn the heat right down and see how you get on

Hi love watching you videos I’m just getting into a little lead work and was wondering why you overlay the lead on the joins instead of butting them …??? Ps them barrel dormers look absolutely fantastic great job you must be proud when you look back at what you have done 👍👍👍
@slbleadworks
@slbleadworks Год назад
Thank you I’m glad your enjoying the vids. Yes I always lap weld as I find it easier than butt welds and also quicker. Thank you I really enjoyed doing those barrel dormers and yes I’m very proud and love looking back at jobs I’ve done etc.

Very pretty. Bit different to the rubber, one size fits all, roof tights we get out here for penetrations. Two things. For getting your angle and to save a bit of time and effort. Why not buy a large carpenter protractor. They come in a variety of sizes. I think I have a 300mm and a 450 or 600mm. Solid steel or aluminium. Set the angle off the bench and use that to set your tube angle. Save you having to scribe, cut and weld your kite piece. The other observation is making the flange on the tube. You free hand the 10mm flange. Your's looks pretty symmetrical so all good. But with a lesser hand and an uneven flange that would change the pitch. The worse the flange the bigger the change. You do loads and not an issue but something to watch for someone else. Another neat job.
@slbleadworks
@slbleadworks Год назад
I’ll have to look into one of these carpenter protractors. Surely you still need to scribe and cut the angle on the up stand ?
@davetaylor4741
@davetaylor4741 Год назад
@@slbleadworks Shouldn't have to. The arms can be set at the required angle. We use them as saw guides etc. One arm on the bench. The other upwards at the angle you need. Put your lead tube up against that.

Just got recommended this by someone on Facebook, mega work! does the lead warp at all with the heat? i do a lot of MIG welding during vehicle restoration and warping is an absolute pig with he heat, would've thought this would be the same if not worse with he lower melting temp, softness of the materials.
@slbleadworks
@slbleadworks 9 месяцев назад
Thank you so much. No I’ve never noticed the lead to warp at all and I’ve made so many of these. Thanks for watching.

Great video Stu. Can I ask, I've got one of these on my Roof for the Soil Outlet Pipe and it's about 22yrs old, but a Scaffolder dropped a pole on the chimney/upright and damaged it and the impact may have damaged the welds, so can it be repaired/rewelded or will it need replacing? Thanks.
@slbleadworks

Hi thank you I’m glad you liked the vid and thanks for watching. It might be able to be repaired. But it would probably be quicker and easier to make a new one.

@slbleadworks
