Hey Stu, somebody has nicked half the lead off my front porch which is curved. How did you do those upstands on the curve. You mentioned like a corrugated edge
@slbleadworks
@slbleadworks День назад
So sorry to hear that 🤦🏻‍♂️. I hope karma exists. Yes so you bend up your upstand like normal. I’d usually do 75mm on a curve. And then you go along the upstand with a rubber mallet or bossing stick. Hitting one side at first,then move along the upstand hitting the other side and so on. Repeat this process. This makes a corrugated edge. This will allow the bay to bend around the curve. I have pictures of what this should look like on my Instagram account. I hope this helps.

hi stuart another fine fabrication another master class in lead welding. how you know how to set the flame on oxy acetylene to right temp is amazing ? i would have burned a hole in it ! would have to try it on a spare bit of lead first . like your lead work and vids keep em coming always something interesting
@slbleadworks
@slbleadworks 4 дня назад
Hi thank you. I think I’m so use to it now that I always know roughly what the temp needs to be. Then I usually have to alter it slightly one way or the other. But I think a good rule of thumb is to have around 2 to 3 inches of acetylene flame before introducing the oxygen.

I have a oxyturbo200 set I use for welding. For some reason my oxygen bottle slowly looses oxygen even though Iv checked all seals and no leaks seem visible. Would you recommend always removing bottles once finished welding on the small oxyturbo sets?
@slbleadworks

You shouldn’t need to. But if you’re loosing oxygen at least you know you won’t be wasting gas if you remove it.

Nice neat work , am a little afraid of erosion on the curve where the tiles touch the felt, and any water ingress may not run away as in normal battening and will find its way in through eroded felt caused by wind and extremes of weather moving the tiles daily!

Enjoyed the video,really helpful,I hope you don’t mind me asking a few questions,I am a roofer/Solar by trade,however lead welding is something I’ve always struggled with,I do have a oxyturbo set at home I’m having a practice with,1,what’s the ideal size nozzle to use,2/if the flame is too hot and burning through the lead,am I using to much oxygen or gas?
@slbleadworks
@slbleadworks 19 дней назад
I’m glad you’re enjoying the vids. I use a number 3 nozzle. And if your burning through the lead your using too much gas or keeping the heat on for too long.
