Nice ideas, but where I live if I left your offerings out, within 24 hours every fruit fly in the county would be bellying up to the bar. I don't know if butterflies would run them off or not. Pretty plates used for the feeders.
Hummingbirds eat fruit flies. I put bananas out in the backyard for butterflies, away from the house. I use a small shallow bowl, that I've E-6000 glued to a small jar (filled with colored glass gem rocks) for the bananas and place that bowl in a slightly bigger bowl of water. to deter ants. I hang this in trees, close to the flower areas butterflies frequesnt
So cool! I used to have a squirrel that would literally bang up against my patio door for me to put squirrel food and bird food out, LoL . Never failed to let me know when they were all out. He just stopped coming one summer. I don’t know why but, I suspect I’ll see him in heaven one day. He was just too smart and special to not end up there. Thanks for all your butterfly info. I did not know this stuff before.
Hi, just a suggestion, you can add a couple of tablespoons of manure to the sand, mixed in and a puddle in the middle to provide valuable nutrients that are not available to them from other resources. This will improve their interest in your overall effort.
Does it turn rancid & moldy, if so, do you just change it out every week or so, and how do you clean it to avoid poising butterflies? I want to use a clay pot bottom, should I use non-porous or does that matter?
@@suzik5981 Hi Suzi, Here is a link (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XN0tKUM4kTU.html) to help you be more successful. In short, it is the salts, proteins and minerals that are not readily available to them for sustenance. Also the fragrant fruit presented should be allowed to age because the ethylene gases from the rotting fruit that are produced attract them and will help produce many more butterflies. Good Luck
Very interesting, I do not know about many butterflies other than Monarchs, and Swallowtails, here in northern, Wisconsin USA, thank you for sharing your talents.
Love the idea but where I live if I put that set up out I'd have deers, bears, rabbits, raccoons, squirrels, bobcats, flys and black ants.. I have to put my bird feeders up 10+ feet up in a tree and 5 feet from any branches. :(
It looks like your cat can't wait for the birds and butterflies to show up. LOL I imagine you can't let the cat out there much. Squirrels are a pain in the butt.
Great ideas! Sorry, i rewound it a couple of times but couldn't make out the red (sugar?) you added after the bee pollen....can you mention it here again please? ty in advance!
Yikes! Cats and wildlife? Good luck with that! My experiences haven't been pleasant. I don't keep cats anymore and I don't believe any domestic cat should be allowed outdoors!
My cats LOVE my fenced in patio. They watch the birds, squirrels and butterflies everyday . No issues at all. Ive had cats my entire life with my oldest at 16 years old.
Ancient Arc, nice video. I agree with many others that you have a lovely cat - I'm a cat owner too. I also feed birds year round, however, I would never dream of having a hummingbird feeder and bird feeder so low to the ground. You should place these feeders much higher up (maybe in the tree) so that you attrack more birds (they won't come by with a cat hanging around) and also you won't tempt fate and end up with dead birds.
Very high on the list of things that are killing our precious birds are outdoor cats. I was shocked to see your cat outside because you seem to be so into nature. Please, please! Don't allow your cats to be outside. Outdoor cats literally kill millions of birds every year in the US. Help to make a difference in saving many species of birds that are now on or ready to be on the Endangered Species List. Outdoor cats are number three on the list of top killers of wild birds. Number one is habitat lose, number two is window strikes and number three is outdoor cats.
You can give this advice to people who let their cats out unattended! He is an indoor living cat and doesn't eat birds as I am a parrot owner and he loves other animals 🌞
