This is a great video. I originally saw your post on Pinterest. I am getting ready to attempt this on a wall in my home. If all goes well then I am going to do it on a wall in the master bedroom. The math is really stumping me as well as what material to use. I originally bought 1 x 3 (2.5 actual) primed mdf boards but then I've seen articles that say the boards should only be 1/2" thick. My baseboard will be 1" x 6" and I will put a narrower board across the top of the baseboard to complete the "frame" of the board and batten. I really like that you went with a wider board up top which is something I hadn't thought of before. Is there anything you wish you had done differently? Have any words of wisdom?

Thanks for the kind words! I hope your project goes/went well. Only thing I would have changed is adding one more cut on the boards that sit atop the existing trim…I would add a beveled cut. Here’s a good example pin.it/1U3TNaC

I will be doing a board and batten wall in my living room. There is a 5”baseboard with a decorative top. I am using 1x3” MDF boards. Do you have any instructions to show how to add it with decorative baseboards. I am not sure how it ties in. The MDF is a little thicker that the existing baseboards. Thanks so much

what time of paint sheen did you apply to your boards & battens? I heard that MDF needs to be oil-based paint but not sure if that's accurate?

HGTV HOME by Sherwin Williams Showcase Satin Online hgsw1466 interior paint. It’s acrylic base and worked great. The MDF I used was primed so no need to prep specially before painting. You don’t need oil based. Good luck with your project!

Hi Larry - HGTV HOME by Sherwin-Williams Showcase Satin Online Hgsw1466 Interior Paint. It’s grey but has a slight blue tone when room is dark. Matches well with navy blue accents (curtains, bedding, wall decor etc).
