He put a lot of blue liquor instead of 5 ml only... so that's why blue... try to put 10 ml of gold rum then 5 ml of blue liquor... It will become green :p
Ok guys, I'm a professional bartender and want to help any amateurs watching this because this "instructional video" is useless to those without enough knowledge and misleading to those with it! Firstly I would like to openly admit that I have never actually made this specific shot, however the science of making layered shots is very simple, it is all about sugar content. The higher the content of sugar in a liquid id, the denser it is, the heavier it is. So the bottom layer is the sweetest, and the top layer is the least sweet, simple. The video starts correctly in my opinion, by adding grenadine . Grenadine (the red liquid) is incredibly sweet and will sink like a stone/ If you think of other famous layered shots with a red layer, it is almost always grenadine, and almost always the bottom layer. Then he mixes the rum separately with the blue liquid, which is most likely blue curacao, an orange flavoured liqueur and the most common blue coloured alcoholic drink. He adds the yellow liquid, mostl likely any yellow coloured liqueur, high sugar content but not as much as grenadine, and it would have to be more sugar content than the blue liqueur. This is where my inexperience of making this particular shot comes into play. In the demonstration it clearly does not mix with the yellow and does not turn green to replicate the pre-made shot in the background. What I would do, is almost fill the glass with the yellow liquid, but instead of tilting the glass and pouring it, use something like a professional barspoon with a flat circular end (google it), that is designed for this purpose. You rest the flat end in the glass at the level you want and gently add the yellow liquid to create an even layer. Then do the same when you add the blue, but this time the flat end of the spoon should be sunk halfway through the yellow liquid, so that it will mix and turn green and create that third layer. Long comment I know, and kudos to anyone who bothered reading all of it. Hopefully it helped you! And also, no kidding, this is literally the first time I have ever left a comment on youtube. Ever. I felt compelled to try and fix the gaping holes of knowledge and method that the makers of this video left. beware what you are shown about bartending in online videos. Some of it, even from what seems like legit sources can be horribly misleading, bullshit, or just flat out completely wrong. I do not profess to be an expert by any means but happy to give my professional advice to any budding bartenders out there, we are a community after all.
I’m just reading this 3yr old comment, but it’s very much on point. After viewing other videos to create this Bob Marley shot they did exactly as you said with the back of a spoon!! Other videos use Crème De Menthe or Midora to make Green and Banana Schnapps for yellow! Thanks for sharing your expertise!! I’m glad you chimed in! ☮️ ….
They will separate by themselves, yes. What I mean is that if you want, say, red yellow green top to bottom, and the green is lighter, it won't sit on the bottom. If the green and red are too similar in specific gravity, they may not separate at all. Also: while a layered drink mixed, then left to sit, will separate itself into its layers, if one uses the right techniques in floating the layers, they won't mix in the first place. Slowly, carefully, and over the back of a very small spoon.
They won't combine because adding the rum to the blue liqueur will make it 'lighter' then the other liqueurs below it, therefore, it will float and not mixed together. What the guy should have added was a green liqueur such as Midori with the rum, so it will be RED,YELLOW and GREEN.
people who find fault in the title of the shot just shut up, if you are really here for the layering he just demonstrate a way to make heavy blue liqueur float on top by mixing with rum. it's brilliant.
All that work for a drink that'll last a second. Shot Glass, Vodka... Pour vodka into glass, Slam. Prep time: 1 second, Drink time: 2 seconds. There a drink that's Quick, easy and doesn't upset people
I had a pretty shot just like this at one bar in Jamaica....Then I had one that was just mixed together. I don't know if it had more liquor or what....But the second one was the strongest drink I ever had in my life. ....It took me 3 gulps to get down one shot....Strong as hell!
No, in the vid, its DEF blue. My guess is tht after awhile, the yellow of the rum mixes with the blue over time. Or perhaps it needs to be stirred, IDK. **But yellow+blue=green.** and since the yellow is below/next to the blue, one could assume one of two scenarios. A: After time, the Y+B will mix together on their own after time (because the different density of the alcohols.) B: If time's passed w no change, *CAUTIOUSLY* stir the top to blend Y+B & it should turn green. Experiment&Practice(:
Exactly. I can name a whole bunch of liqueurs that're yellow, with very different weights, and lots of them are gonna taste horrible mixed with blue curacao. Admittedly, pousse cafes (layered drinks) are properly drunk one layer at a time (take these things as shots and wonder why they taste bad that way? That's cuz they're not supposed to be shots!) but each later should taste good. Besides, you want green? Just use Midori, it's tasty stuff and it's green!!
Easier to make and sure tastes better than the above> grenadine (red) + licor 43 (yellow) + midori (green). Make it look better by flaming it (bacardi 151 on top)
Don't pour it like that. Chances are that the liquids will mix up and you won't get your nice layers. Take a knife and lower the tip to the side of the glass/shot. Pour the liquor on the blade and into the glass/shot. This way, there is less risk of layers mixing up. The same goes for other drinks with layers.
I agree, The colors represent the rastafari which abstains from alcohol, to use them in a shot drink is both insulting and ignorant. Black- Represents Africa Red- For the blood of all the living things on the world Gold- For the treasures in life that people cherish Greem- For the earth that we walk on
In his defense, there aren't many green liqueurs I can think of that will float on top of the rest of them, and when it mixes with the yellow it looks a tiny bit green :o
The true way to make a Bob Marley or "Flaming" Bob Marley is to use Grenadine(red), Gran Mariner(yellow),creme de menthe(green), and Jamaican Overproof or Bacardi 151(clear). Use a straw to drink bottom first without stopping. 4 layers. Light to make a flaming Bob Marley
Yep, this is what happens when a friend send you some Ukrainian super talent video, but thanks to you. Now i wonder, when, how and why. And now I'm late for a date. Great.
the last bob marley shot i took was strong as fuck. it was the green methe schnapps, cherry vodka, and 100 proof banana rum..... it looked the same and i had to drink it out of a straw really fast so it kept the color. and om-geezus was it strong!!!!
@LNAiLy028 It all depends as to what you are referring to. Liquor is a bog standard term describing an alcoholic drink. Whereas a liqueur as being used in the video above, normally refers to a spirit, ie. a liqueur such as sherry or similar. I believe so anyways.
Blue on the top? Why not green? And yellow liqueur? Banana? Lemon? If you use a yellow liqueur with a significantly different density it may mess up the layering of the drink.
lol at yellow liqueur and blue liqueur....if you wanna make a tutorial about how to make a drink give the names of the ingredients you are using...very good layering at the end...
Kinda looks like Pousse Cafe! You articulated the gold rum but what are the other liquers? Do i just go to the liquor store and say hi the guy wants me to ask for the blue one and the red one?
dont use a blue liquer like they say to do on here use a green like melon liquer because the way they discribe to do it on here isnt a true marley shot due to the color green isnt added.
what do the colors yellow and blue make when you mix them, the drink in the background is the same type of drink, but because it had sat around longer the two top colors mixed, making it green instead of blue
It is insulting to call it a Bob Marley drink, he was opposed to drinking alcohol. Even calling it a Rastafarian drink would be incorrect title. "Herb is the healing of a nation, alcohol is the destruction"
