Hi JB, just used this to make a clean install lion thumb drive, brilliant. At 80 years old I never thought I would be able to do it but after following the prices you described it came together nicely. Thanks.
All the power to you sir!!! You are an inspiration to all of us. I hope i can be doing anything by 80 years old! Nothing but love and respect to you sir!
Great video. One question. How come you didn't have to go into terminal?? Most videos i see dont use the restore feature. I like it though, seems more user friendly but whats the success rate?
Good Video. I have a clean ssd that I'm installing but I also have a faulty hard drive in my MacBook Pro is there anyway I could use a jump drive to clone my SSD?
@thegoodguy253 yes, formatted my hard drive meaning it'll erase everything. If you are "upgrading", no, it will not. If it allows you to simply install/upgrade it, it won't delete your things. I did a clean instal which means to format & wipe everything on your computer & start new.
Is there a a way of doing this with out downloading Mountain Lion, I'm ordering a Macbook Pro 15" (non-retina) tomorrow, alongside a Samsung 840 Pro SSD - I want to have the operating systems on the SSD like you, but I'm guessing the latest osx will already be pre-installed on the supplied HDD, cheers
Thank you a really good explanation although not much use to me I have passed it on and they are delighted. I have subscribed to your tutorials because I feel you have so much to offer! Your advice has reached me in Wales which is one of the four countries that make the United Kingdom, keep up the good work.Diolch yn fawr iawn
Thanks dude. This was a fantastic vid. Well done for putting out each step and sequence so nicely. Could you make video to show how to boot from the USB drive to install the OS on a brand new hd or ssd? Thanks
JB, Thanks for the video this is very helpful. I am just undertaking my first DIY project on my 2011" mbp. I bought a 2TB external, and cloned the HD using CCC. Now I would like to follow the instructions on this video and make a bootable version of lion on the drive, I didn't do this prior to the clone unfortunately. I'm wondering if there is a way to do this without erasing the HD I just cloned to the external which is 750GB and took 8.5 hours. Thanks!
Thank You, I have been searching through many video that show the same thing but you have the most complete step by step, Thank You for your hard work.
Will os x 10.8 work on the 17" MacBook Pro? The Model Identifier is MacBookPro3,1 and i would like to upgrade it from os x 10.4.11 so i don't lose my programs that i don't have disk's for. I lost them.
Yes I watched other videos and was getting and error before it copied over so if you watch close and do everything the same it'll work. I got stuck in the disk utility trying to figure out which one to put as the source and which as the destination. Use the exact ones he uses before clicking restore or you'll get an error message. Thanks a million.
THIS IS A GREAT VIDEO BUT I CANNOT FIND A VIDEO ON RU-vid SHOWING HOW YOU BOOT FROM THE FLASHDRIVE AFTER THIS PROCESS? I got all the way to the point where i reformatted my usb and all that, but when it came time to do the step to choose the device and reboot the computer, it claimed that i needed an additional 8 GB in order for it to work. I used a cleared, 8 gb usb just like yours, and with mountain lion on the flash drive, i had around 3 gb of un used space. please help?

Not sure if anyone could help me but I recently got a mac that was preowned. I restarted the whole mac and did all the steps from apple.com. The problem is when I try to reinstall mountain lion it ask for a Apple ID. I put different ones in but when I click continue, it doesn't do anything. I'm not sure what to do and I would really like some help. Thank you
Heybuddy : I have the same problem but I didn’t find any one talk about it but the only way is to buy a new hard drive and buy OS X from internet or a usb installer system from eBay
well always purchase a mac in person because when there is an apple ID on it and no-oone knows the password it means the mac is stolen. real owners would remove the apple id before selling, stolen ones are the ones with apple id and you cant get into a mac without the apple id that is why it does not pay off to steal macbooks unless you got a buyer who doesn't know the main things when purchsing a used macbook and buys it without knowing that they can't use the computer
how i can install os x on my mac pro 1.1 if everyone make a tutorial with a mac installed?? so can u install on clean HDD (hard disc) on Slot Disc, and show how its bootble. please help me!!!

says This copy of The "install OS X ' Application is too old to be opened on this version of OS X,i have THE Macbook Pro 13" mid 2012, and which came with Lion OS X included, and its older than Mountain Lion OS X....Any one know why this occurring???
Thank you soo much this great tutorial. it helps a lot. Could you please make a tutorial on "How to merge partitions into the Mac HD where OS is installed". Cheers
i just want to know how to performed this task by going to recovery mode , would i see my pen drive connected out there , once i press cmd + option keys
You cannot have Mac OSX on PC unless your doing Hackintosh, but that is a completely different process. That is why Apple computers are expensive, the OS is like $20, but the hardware is $599 for Mac Mini or $1000+ for MacBook Air/Macbook Pro with education discount. Windows is like $100-$200 for OS, but hardware is like $300-$1000 depending on specs.
JBTech 17! Thank You Sir! You must run the Genius Bar at Apple. Great job, cause You got me "The Big Dummy" to do this. I have to put a new hard drive in my wife's Mac Book Pro, but when I got done ordering it for Other World Computing I start thinking, "Hey the new hard drive isn't going to have an OX S operating system on it, how am I going to get Mountain Lion on it?" Well Sir, You fixed that. Many thanks for the time You put into making these great videos, stay safe out there!
Hers a tip: If you don't need to boot up with it and you just want to upgrade all your other macs then when you download 10.8 ML for the first time, before you install it, copy it to your desktop then it wont delete it when you are finished installing on your current mac, then you can copy and past that file to a flash drive and open it on all your other macs, then it will just upgrade, if you want to boot from it and do a clean install then just do what he did.
OMFG! Thank you so much for this tutorial!!! I've followed several instructions on the net on how to do this and they all resulted in a "failure to restore". Your vid did the trick!! (For some reason, dragging InstallESD.dmg can't execute the operation but dragging the volume "Mac OS X Install ESD" does. Anyways, I'm so happy this thing finally worked!! I just subscribed!!
Thanks.... I would have been so lot without this video.... You are an angel..... I cannot thank you enough..... How can I even begin to express my thanks....???
