Excellent! I needed this to install a new internal SSD drive to a MacBook. Thanks for doing this video tutorial and for providing all the insights, which were very helpful. I was not aware this was possible, so explaining everything in detail, as well as showing the steps, was vastly important to me, and I appreciate all the information you provided.
Thank you so much !!!! I spent 5 hours following other channels on youtube howto process of doing this but didn't have luck at all. I came across this video and thank god I did.
Great video! Very informative! I am planning to install a SSD in my MacBook Pro And also upgrade the RAM. So for that I'll be switching the pre installed Hard drive with the SSD. But I'll be putting the old hard drive in place of the super drive so that I'll be able to use the SSD for the OS and applications whereas the Hard Drive for other data. My question to you are:- 1. Can I create a bootable USB installer of OS X Yosemite and directly fresh install it on the SSD after I switch the SSD in place of the Hard drive? 2. What will happen to the data on the Hard Drive? The hard drive will have the original OS and other data, right? So can I access it after switching the SSD for the hard drive? 3. Can I later format the hard drive post installing the SSD with the OS? Please let me know as I am very new to MacBook and I don't want to screw my device coz of lack of knowledge. Thanks!
I have download from the apple store on my macbook. Can i install from there direct instead of thumbdrive? Another question, can i install the previous version of mac os x ?
What's it called if u want to create the same thing but instead of getting a clean install it installs with all the setting that your computer previously had? And how would I do that? Thanks
These videos are great, thank you so much for taking the time to do them!! they are much better and easier to follow then any other videos i have found on Mac products!!
Question: a friend of mine wants to format her macbook pro but it's still running OS X leopard, making this bootable thumb drive, she can upgrade to yosemite or she needs to upgrade to snow leopard first? she has a macbook pro with intel core 2 Duo, 2gb Ram and i think her model is mid 2009
I guess they don't know they can click on the progress bar and skip to the meat eh JBl I tried watching a few others that didn't give me the info you did so ignore the bozos complaining, if they were so smart they would have their own youTube video. Good stuff thanks. from LA which is not short for laughing my ass off!

Hey, this video was really informative. I was following instructions elsewhere that didn't explain that you have to erase usb in disk utility. Unfortunately, I am still butting my head against a wall. Error I get when I chose Yosemite in Disk Maker is "No Installer application could be found. Click on Select a file and choose the OS X Installer application OR the InstallESD.dmg file. If you can't find a Lion or Mountain Lion Install application, please check the FAQ." I get this error no matter what computer I try to use, and no matter what OS X I pick (I have tried choosing Mountain Lion and Mavericks, same error). Any ideas how to fix this?
i tried making a bootable usb using diskmaker x but the application seems to hang after sometime... i tried using terminal using sudo command but thats also giving me an error... please help
This is what I would like to know as well! I ordered a brand new internal hard drive. can I literally just install the hard drive, have the USB drive plugged in, and install the OS onto the new hard drive??
I just want to know. I'm windows user, I've installed Mac os at my PC on vmware. So if i make bootable Mac os into usb, can i format my windows to MAC os? What i know, Mac os product is end user. Is there a way to make my PC boot using MAC os?
Question: I just upgraded to Yosemite last night but I can't find the installer for it! Did the installer get deleted? WTF? I hate to have to download it again.
