How to make a Carnyx ? A 2000 years old celtic instrument.

More than one year ago I started the big project of building a carnyx of Tintignac. Here are 6 months of work condensed in one and half hour. For sure we will use it in the music of Gofannon and more !
I a mei d'un an comecèri le projecte gròs de construir un carnyx de Tintinhac. Aquí son 6 meses de trabalh condensats en una ora e mièg, e plan segur que l'utilizarem ambe Gofannon e encara mei !
Il y a plus d'un an je me suis lancé dans le gros projet de construire un carnyx de Tintignac. Voici 6 mois de travail condensés en une heure et demie, et bien sûr qu'on va l'utiliser dans Gofannon et bien plus encore !

I love the way french tools look. Especially the hammers and the anvil. I own some antique hammers and I use them when I forge.

Im still doing researches on how to make it and make it sound great its there any special recipe for the size of resonance chanbera and pipe dimension and angles?

Bravo pour votre oeuvre, pourquoi ne pas avoir décoré ou ajouré la « crête » de la tête de sanglier dans le style des instruments originaux ? Elle aurait gagné en finesse et en légèreté (ça n’est que mon opinion !) Seriez-vous disposé à la réalisation d’une commande de carnyx et si oui quel est le budget à envisager ? Merci et bon courage dans votre beau travail !

Only the carnyx of Deskford seems to have traces of a wooden tongue.

Would it be possible to make it out of copper instead of brass or bronze?

I guess yes. It works pretty much the same but I never worked with copper I don't know if it might break at some point.

I am thinking about trying my hand at making one and want to know as much info about the material you used and techniques that you used. I have already binge watched all of the videos you made on it which are amazing by the way!!!

@@ddayinvader6487 Thank you. By gauge do you mean thickness? It's 0.6mm brass but the gauls used 0.5. I've tried 0.5 once but it's awful it's like working with paper. For the amount of metal I don't know. I order rectangular pieces for every par, close to the dimensions I want and then I cut them to the good dimensions.

@@samuelmeric-lobrador4580 thank you for the info! I forgot that gauge is only used here in the US. Sorry about that. As for the pipes, what diameters did you create? Did you go up by a set amount with each pipe, or did you wing it and guessed?

@@ddayinvader6487 I've tried to get as close as possible to the diameter of the great carnyx of Tintignac, you can find in the official archaeological publish. Then I've order 2 steel mandrels made on a lathe to hamer it.

No es cobre, es latón. Estoy usando una placa de 0,6 mm. Pero los galos utilizaron bronce de 0,5 mm.

Le vrai Carnix est tout droit pas courbé à l'embouchure...

Il n'y a pas de "vrai carnyx" mais plusieurs carnyx avec des formes différentes qui ont été retrouvés en archéologie. Sur cette version on peut avoir au choix une embouchure courbée ou droite.
