How to make one of our Snuffle mats.
There are many tutorials online on how to make these. This is how we’ve been making ours at the centre, up-cycling old blankets and material.
📝 You will need: A ruler, a pair of fabric scissors, a pen, pet blankets/fleece and some strong material which won’t fray or a rubber mat.
For the base we use strong material which won’t fray. In this video we’ve up-cycled an old coated apron. We’re using materials we have around the cattery, you can use rubber mats with holes in for these as well e.g sink mats
📏🖊 For material bases - Measure and mark out holes 1 inch x 1 inch, using some scissors carefully cut approx 1cm slits.
Use colourful or patterned pet fleece blankets. Cut strips of fleece blanket measuring by 1-1.5 inches x 7 inches. Thread these through and knot them on the other side. The next strip, thread through same hole as the one before so there are tight together. Work along each row. You create patterns with different colours.
😸 Once it’s finished, fluff it up and it’s ready for your cat. Simply scatter their biscuits on to the snuffle mat. Watch them forage for their food, it’s a great enrichment feeder, it helps reduce boredom and slows them down if they like to gobble their food too quickly.
