another way to improve on this is to put a T fitting in there instead of the 90, any dust and bits coming down the pipe isn't going to roll down into the hair dryer

Welding sheet metal is difficult....hose clamps would work just as well. Not everyone has a welder.

Don't quench while in the middle of working it, only after your forge work is done. Before you quench you need to normalize the piece to take out all of the stress that was put into it during forging. To do this, heat the blade until it is non-magnetic, then run the blade through the forge to make it have a uniform colour, then let it air cool to ambient temperatures, it is suggested to have it sitting on an insulating surface like insulated firebricks, kaowool (used to insulate gas forges) or vermiculite. Do this three times. This shrinks the grain structure, making your blade stronger, and less likely to break or warp when quenching it. You are free to straighten the piece if it warps between heat cycles, but be gentle and don't heat beyond non-magnetic. After normalizing do most of your grinding work except sharpening. If you do it after you quench it will be harder to grind Make sure that the edge is still flat and blunt, or the edge will cool too quickly. before you quench it in oil, preheat the oil by dipping a red hot piece of junk metal, like rebar. Cold oil isn't wet enough, and doesn't transfer heat efficiently because it the molecules don't move between each-other easily. Finally, to quench it, heat it to non-magnetic, run it through the forge to make the colour uniform, then dip it in. With water quenching, you have to stir the water to prevent steamy gas bubbles from ruining you quench. After quenching, you need to temper, because after the quench, the blade is very hard, and very brittle. The easiest way is to stick it in an oven at 500 and wait an hour or two. After that, you can sharpen, polish, and create a handle. Make sure to dip in water if you are using a sanding belt or grinding wheel after tempering. If you get it too hot (which can totally happen with power tools), you will create a soft spot. You can tell by the metal turning purple.

Turn down the volume

Most professional firepots are cast iron. You run into issues when your firepot (whatever that may be) is deep and has steep walls, as the heat will rise into the walls, but on a shallow design like this you should be good. And if you need to raise the depth of your fire pot, you can put fire bricks next to it to make a larger coal pile.

Super fedt at høre, jeg bruger godt nok ikke så meget tegninger når jeg går og laver noget selv. Det er mere en organisk proses hvor jeg har en plan i hovedet og udformer den løbende, men tak for tilbudet :D hvilken type smed vil du så uddanne dig til? jeg er selv uddannet industritekniker som ikke ligger så fagligt langt væk :D

It's maybe worth it if you're a professional but if you're just making stuff for fun i don't think it's a need and old timer blacksmiths had big pieces of wood under their anvils.

Blacksmiths have been mounting their anvils to a big heavy wooden stumps for thousands of years. Finally K162KingPin has come along and shown everyone what dumb asses that they have been all of this time. Thank you for sharing your wis-dumb with us all. Now, perhaps you can put on your thinking cap and figure out why you are wrong or you can continue believing everyone else is stupid. You could try pounding on a piece of steel sitting on concrete for 10 or 12 hours and then try it the other way and report back to the class.

Most people now days don't really believe in a god. Many claim they do because those around them claim they do so they want to fit in. At least in our part of the world you wont find anyone burning children alive as a sacrifice to their god, or invading other towns and cities killing men, woman, children, and even animals because they worshiped another god. Sadly this is how most of human history has been. Just because something was done "for thousands of years" my no means makes it better in any way. Did you consider than blacksmiths putting anvils on a log might be the reason they were so unproductive that the industrial revolution didn't happen for thousands of years? Blacksmiths have been around for as long as written history at least 7,000 years. The anvil has been around for at least 6,000 years. I bet when someone invented the anvil all the other blacksmiths where like... "Why don't you just beat your metal fragments against a rock? That's how everyone else has done it for hundreds of years. But I guess we needed you to come along and tell us we have been doing it wrong all this time." Then they probably found some stupid religious reason to kill him. Ultimately people like you have attempted to stall progress for as far back as someone else's better idea made them feel stupid. You didn't think up something better so you cling to the past like a child with its blanket. You feel safe in what you know but you are afraid at anything new and so you lash out like a child. That's not coal, it's lump charcoal. Smiths have been forging with charcoal for 2,000 years or more. Cleaner than coal and just as hot.

His DIY don't even have ash collector and pipe will be filled with ash very soon. If you connect the hairdryer directly to barrel ash and heat could damage hairdryer and the barrel will burn out very quickly because it is thin.
