Thank you! Too cute! I draw 1 diagonal line, sew it & use my walking foot with the guide bar. Easy peasy!

The giraffes are too cute, especially all ‘fuzzed up’. For those who are concerned about the cost of 4 panels, wait until your local fabric store has a sale on fabric and scoop them up. This is such a great project. Thanks Kimberly!

Such a cute idea using the panels. I made a chenille quilt with flannel fabrics several years ago and it is still going strong (nice and warm on cold winter nights).

I love chenille. It is so soft and cozy. I have made several baby chenille blankets over the years. I have used panels and large print fabrics. It is such a fast and easy baby blanket to make. I used scissors before purchasing the chenille cutter. Ugh! The chenille cutter definitely makes the process easier and faster. Never thought of making a rug. Great idea. Another great tutorial.

Love it! Thanks for another great video! I have a metal four foot ruler, (mine has a good weight to it), that should reach across the panel for marking the lines. May need to use a weight (like for exercises) to hold ruler in place. Thank again!

That is a clever idea you will most definitely have to tell us about how your finished project turns out!

Love this. My sister is having another baby and while I still have to make a quilt like I did for the last one, this would be great to add to it for the baby room. Thanks.

4 panels!!! I'm sorry, this project is adorable but I see big dollar signs, if there was no picture, could you use 4 layers of any fabric and sort of make it a collage of colors? I'm going to experiment (on a smaller scale, of course) and I'll let you know.
@doadirockwell1761

Yes, you can actually use three layers of color under a panel and it will still look like the picture - I agree BIG $$$ to buy four panels when one panel and yardage nets the same result. You want the underlying colors to compliment your panel and not outshine it so pick colors that are less bright or you can use three layers of the same color under your panel.

You could certainly use yardage to achieve this look. This is just one way to do a project, and hopefully it gets you inspired to create. Thanks for watching.

I thought the same thing .... $$$$ ca-ching! Its adorable though :)

I think the picture would be lost if you didn't use layers of all the same panel, but it would be interesting to know if you could use yardage!

I'm just sayin' all rugs don't have to be for kids, I need one now for my own bathroom, a nice batik in my bathroom's color might look interesting, that's why I'm going to experiment.....thank you so much for the idea Shabby.

Love this! I saw on a similar project you used 3 panels but used 4 panels on this. How do you determine how many panels you need to use?
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 5 лет назад
We just simply wanted to test to see if fewer panels would still work as well, and the 3 panels worked just as well as the 4 panels. How many you use is up to you. Using 3 panels helps keep the cost down, of course, and still makes a lovely fluffy rug, so we liked that option! :) - Morgan

Do the lanes need to be clipped after using the chenille cutter?
@ShabbyFabrics

Hello Lory! You do not have to clip the lanes. - Yajaira

Do you or can you recommend something to put on back so it’s not so slippery?
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 6 лет назад
We just use standard non-slip mats for rugs (found at any big box store). They look kind of like shelf liner. Hope that helps!

There is a product from Etsy that has the rubber dots on a solid fabric, the type that are on the bottom of children’s sleepers. Unfortunately it is from China so takes a bit to come but the store is handmadediystore and it’s called dotted nonslip fabric.

The fabric panel that I would like to use has a detailed pattern of a scene with cactus, water, mountain and sky. Would this be suitable for this technique?
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 3 года назад
Hello Pam the one thing to keep in mind is that you will need 3-4 panels to use this technique. - Yajaira

Are there written supplies and instructions anywhere? I’m getting ready to try this and am concerned I am not grasping all the entire process. Thanks

We don't have the instructions written down anywhere at the moment. The video walks you through the entire process, so it might be helpful to watch it a few times to make sure you know the entire process. And you can always ask us questions as you go. We'll answer as quickly as we can! :) - Morgan
