Image-Line recently released 2 FREE guitar FLEX packs that sound VERY realistic. You can even hear strings snapping back and "fret fingers" lol. I hope that holds you over!
@@HazyJ28 Yeah I found out today. That was a punch in the gut. Here I am try-harding, diving deep into to the resonance behaviour and whatnot, getting fairly close to the real thing... And today I think, lets mess with FLEX (which got recommended to me recently), hmm guitar essential pack.... Ok, with one push of a button.... BOOM outperformed by a long shot 😢 But I guess it's worth analysing the preset to learn (though I think a lot happens behind the screen there).

A tip from an orchestral composer; Let mod wheel control dynamics Instead of playing with attack, control volume, filters, etc. with a mod wheel. In addition, make a macro control entire volume (expression), another one control vibrato. Then, link them to your faders. The more controllable, the more flexible and FUN😆 Kinda randomness and details make it blend with real orchestral samples. PS Love your basic synth design series. So comprehensive and brief that I can use these techniques in other synths immediately. Thank you for the videos!
@@rashid5271 You found an epic wavetable🤣 Btw, synthesizing real orchestral sounds is really exciting. Amp, distortion, granular, etc. Orchestras are the richest oscillators :)
😭YOU'VE INSPIRED ME TO PICK UP MUSIC PRODUCTION AGAIN 😭😭😭😭😭😭! thank you! Think I lost it cuz I couldn't find instruments I really liked and may get a little stressed out when trying to customize the plugins. I love Ambient, synth type atmospheric music. You reminded me why I enjoyed it before, heck you taught me all I know about fl studio!😭thanks man love from the Philippines🇵🇭

The tutorial is wonderful, Michael. However, I have fallen IN LOVE with your new intro music. I dunno why, but it makes me smile. Compliments your laid-back, genuine energy very nicely! =D
I'm getting into cinematic trap/Future Bass right now and the prices of some of these Cinematic plugins and packs are way above what I want to spend. This has helped me GREATLY, it's free, and I learned a lot about the effects these many knobs have over the sound. Thanks!
I want one separate video on creating wavetable and how to use matrix in Vital in detail that would be a great help. By the way this video was, as we know amazing. Keep up the good work. Best wishes.
Dude i learn two things from u 1: pure calming eng language 2:ofc great production tips. U helped me alot from the straight beginning. I still remembered when i just used to play fl studios preloaded flps for example 🙂. Thank u ❤
Great stuff Michael. Glad you used Vital on this one. I've been toggling between Omnisphere and Vital for all your SD videos. Seems like Serum is a bit different. Concepts are great though, as now I can apply to virtually any synth. Thanks for all the excellent videos.
When he said that I already have the patch, that was like a 4th wall break. Only the wall was behind me, not the other way around. lol that blew my mind lmaooooo
I wanna say, as a composer I checked this out and it to be honest, it's not really a good replacement for strings, I'd rather use Labs. BUT: the lows sound really good. Dark, omnious and also powerful. You can also reshape it a little to create an awesome sounding pad. I don't check out sound design video's very often, but this was really interesting, thanks Michael!
Nice tips ! Here is one from me: Load in a quite bad sampled library of a string ensemble you have, and use it as the modulator in a vocoder, to modulate your synth you've just created. If you have good vocoder, you can play simple chords (major or minor) in the key of the song you are doing over 2 octaves (program midi to help you play more notes than you have fingers) in the range where you want to use your synth, and freeze that frequency response. From here on out the vocoder is static (you could discard the sampler), but you've just applied an overall filter to the output of your synth to shape the overall tonal caracteristic of your synth. You retain control over attack, decay, LFOs, and all the other work you've done to give your synth a string sound. This is nice especially if the sampled library you have is not usuable as an instrument but still provides you with the overall sound of the instrument you are trying to emulate. You can also do the same for woodwinds and everything else.
Great vid, I could reproduce this tutorial on both Vital and Dune 3. Very useful and I want to add that sometimes, less realistic strings sit better with other electronic instruments.
If you need realistic string that don't take up much space, I can recommend the Spitfire BBCSO Discover. It's free if you fill out a questionnaire and takes up less than a gigabyte of space. And it has a whole orchestra.
And can you make a full course tutorial of music production?? Plz!! Like basic to advanced....like how to choose sounds for perticular genre !!!pls then how to arrange, how to add fx , how to make melody intersting, and a detailed video of chord progression!! And how to start and finish a songs, and video of music theory...pls can you do that for us !! I'm full beginner and I wanna learn more. I know little bit and I practice in Ableton Live trial version... And the way you describe all things is just awesome 🔥...so I wanna learn all from you...is it possible plz!! Can you start a series of the complete music production? Plz !
With tutorials like this, I'm glad you can make those kinds of sounds with a free VST. Because it's free, I don't have to worry about looking for free orchestral libraries, nor do I have to worry about space like you said. I bet you can show us how to recreate other orchestral instruments with this program like solo strings, woodwinds, or maybe even a timpani if possible. In fact, I'd love to see you do some Sakura tutorials because that plugin doesn't get enough attention. Either way, good luck on your content and thank you for this tutorial. (5-2-2021)
11:50 Spitefire LABS and BBC Symphony Orchestra are some very powerful and comprehensive sample libraries despite being free. Ample Sound's "lite" acoustic guitar and P bass VSTs are also awesome, though you have less articulation control, and need some workarounds to get equivalent results with the "lite" versions. If you have just one of the paid Ample VSTs, you can audition your guitar chords there for authentic playing before moving them to your "lite" instruments set to keyboard mode!
A synth string pad is always usefull, at least for doubling/enriching/expand/EFXing/"synthizing" a sampled "real string" section. As a deep low sine can "steroïdize" you bass.
Great tutorial, thanks! There\s kind of trick to dynamically switch between long attack and release and short punchy attack for staccato-like sound, I guess: I route Env1 attack and realease and Env2 sust to velocity, so with hard hitting i got punchy sound, and soft touch gives me a long rising sound.
A saw a sleeping, dreaming puppy and *completely* missed every word you said in the last minute :D The rest of the tutorial was great though! I need to get myself this synth too.
Michael, I beg of you: Please make a regular series out of making Vital patches lol. And maybe even Sytrus, too. Nobody else comes close to your teaching ability.
Can you do something on Hybrid 3? The work system is a bit different, so is good to learn how to do things with synths that are more away of serum type work.
