I am making a compact oak bark leather tool bag from a lovely thick hide. It has wet moulded ends, hand sewn seams, and saddlers copper rivets to strengthen key stress points.
A brilliant project Harry and a beautiful tool bag, I love the buckle fastener, I have never seen one like that. I also enjoy using saddlers copper rivets, they are extremely strong and also look great. Thank you for sharing your idea and skills, take care, regards, Chris.
What a great sized bag! I've always wanted to do leather but too many interests already. Great video! Thanks for sharing and also your time! Craftsman like you are a real treasure!
Fantastic job as always Harry! I watched your video on stain glass repair & it prompted me to finish my front door that my wife has been asking me for 22 years to finish I went to the Lead & Light shop in Camden you talked about & wow what a fantastic shop I was like a child in a sweet shop £120 & 2 hours later I had some wonderful glass, cane, lead H section you name it, I even had a tour upstairs where they make & repair wonderful stain glass so a BIG thanks to you from not just me but my wife Caroline who has waited patiently for 20 years for me to finish the stain glass but have to say it was worth the wait it looks amazing thanks again Harry for your wonderful videos there so enjoyable and informative see you on the next one
Hello harry, thanks for a simple bag. I have this type of bag in the 90s . Similar design except this bag the locking mechanism is excelent. Thanka. Cheers . Azhar , perak, malaysia
Wonderful idea. I can’t wait to make my own. Thank you for the great idea. I love your creative projects, all created with perfection. I really like your work which I’ve been following for a few years. Thanks again for everything ! 🙏 You should be proud of your talent and the truly beautiful results of your job. I feel like you would be a great mentor to me for making such attractive and useful leather products. You leather bag actually reminds me very much of my first doctor bag that I received in medical school. I’d love to make a new brown one myself. My first doctor bag was black leather, but a chestnut brown like your leather is much warmer and more appealing. Have a great day. Enjoy the rest of your summer ! 🙏
Excellent video! I have an old leather shoulder bag that has been collecting dust for years. I don't think I've used it for twenty years. A while ago I realised that it would be perfect as a tool bag. I've treated the leather, that was the first step, and have been mulling over which tools to put in it. It's going to be for carving and sketching, so that helps, but it shouldn't become too heavy. I want to make holders for tools. Leather strips for tool handles and wider leather strips formed with pockets for the ends of tools are probably the main addition I have to make. It has two compartments, the main large one (larger than the one you make in the video) and a smaller one perfect for flat and square things. I don't really have the time to work on it right now, but it's lovely to think about and plan!
Hello Harry, I just wanted to say I've watched your videos for years and enjoy the quality of your content. I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge. From Canada 🙂
Latch is new to me and want to add it to my options! Definitely love the bag and love all your maker videos! I am also a maker of all things so I totally appreciate all you do!
@@Shorty12543 that's a Chinese knockoff of a Col. Littleton clinch buckle. It's a patented buckle out of Tennessee but you can find cheap "replicas" that are pretty dang close if not the same buckle online for around $15. I've got a belt from them that has that buckle, when used on bags the bag has to have some tension for it to hold shut and not pop open randomly.
I am wanting to make a portmanteau similar to your tool bag. Your method gave me greater thoughts to when I make my case. THANKS!!! and wonderful video
That's a fabulous bag Harry . I have a collection of leather tools some bought and some inherited/ I always learn something about the use of the tool watching your videos. I made a formed holder for a folding saw using much the same approach that you have used for the ends of your bag. I actually enjoy saddle stitching by hand it's quite relaxing.
Nicely done as usual, Harry. Thanks for sharing. Good to know that you are a spoon carver. I am not, but I make a large number of axe and adze sheaths for Jason Lonon here in North Carolina. His smith work is hard to beat. A spoon carving axe is one of his most recent additions. I had clicker dies made for it and a slightly larger axe earlier this year.
Haven't seen the last few videos Harry, that's nice fast editing. I would miss your full explanation on new item to the channel but I like this. Lovely bag of course as always, thanks. Edit. Just went back to check and I had watched the previous vid and commented, getting old. Still like the video cut, hope it works well.
Enjoyed watching this one. Another brilliant project! I've been a long time lurker of your channel. I wanted to drop in and say thank you. Your videos have taught me a lot. I will make a bag similar to this one in the near future. I tried to catch what that latch is called. I'm not hearing it. Can you let us know? It is beautiful and really makes the bag. I'm thinking something of this nature yet not at long with some d-rings on the ends.
Hello, I'm new to leather working. What are the measurements for the sides and the uni piece? Thanks and I'm going to try to make this bag for my tools too.I love love the bag. 🤠🤠🤠
I just bought that nice knife you used to blend the skive on the end bits at the beginning. I have also stumbled upon a pattern for a sheath for it. I should be making it within the next few days. The design of that knife allows it to do things that are difficult with a lot of the other sharp things I have in the shop. How did I last all these years without one?
It's a Japanese Leather Knife, you can use it for both cutting leather and skiving. Search YT and there are several videos, including one by Harry - "Stropping a Cheap Skiving Knife to Super Sharp" I have a couple of those Japanese knives, the cheap one shown and a more expensive model. Once you get used to the offset blade you realise how good & useful they are
@@geoffreyboyling615 I know exactly what it is, have seen Harry's video as well as others that are using it, and I don't need to do any searching for anything, thanks very much. But maybe someone who's actually new to this business might find your reference useful.
Just the type of bag I was looking for and a great video. My biggest issue with leatherworking is finding the leather. Seems to be a bit tricky knowing where to look. I recently just made a pair of A5 notebook covers using a thin sheepskin leather but I'd like to make a bag similar to your design, perhaps half the size or less to store my modest leatherworking tools. Any suggestions for leather supply in the UK?
I have been looking for that roller guide on the skiver but can't seem to find it. I am in the US. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Always love your videos. Thanks in advance.
@@harryrogers thank you. I liked you tool bag design, I’ve done a similar but much smaller one for my spoon carving knifes. Mine didn’t need to fit an axe in it!
I would love to know the name of that case lock latch you used or where you purchased it from, I've never seen anything like it! Would you please share the name? or if anyone in the comments knows it I would be extremely grateful!
Hi Harry. Can you please tell me why you have never made a pair of leather gloves on the channel - and no other leather working youtuber I subscribe to seems to have done a pair of gloves either! Is it a lost art? Surely it can't be anywhere near as challenging as making a pair of shoes?
