Whether you display your paper flowers at home, gift them to someone special, or use them to decorate an event, your paper blooms will have a unique charm that store-bought decorations just can't beat... a joyful reminder of the beauty you can create with your own hands.
This tutorial is simple and meditative... an hour long activity to make a realistic grand Chrysanthemum flower. We hope you enjoy making these paper flowers!
YOU WILL NEED:
- Light Yellow and Darker Yellow Crepe Paper
- Olive Green or Leaf Green Crepe Paper
- Copper Wire or Craft Wire
- P.V.A. glue / Fevicol
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. This tutorial shows how to make a large Chrysanthemum flower with bendable stem and leaves, using crepe paper.
2. Start by cutting strips of light yellow crepe paper about 13 cm long and 1.5 cm wide, with the grain of the paper parallel to the length of the pieces. Cut 60 strips for each flower.
3. Fold and twist the strip around the centre. Press the twisted end into a cup shape. Stick the base, to make one petal.
4. Make about 60 such petals.
5. Cut the dark yellow crepe paper into a strip about 4 cm by 20 cm. Fold and cut along the edge to make a fringe.
6. Cut a length of craft wire, about 40 cm long. Bend the tip into a narrow loop.
7. Wind the yellow fringe around the looped wire and stick with glue. This is the centre of the flower.
8. Stick the base of a petal to the yellow centre piece. Press and hold till the petal is stuck properly.
9. Add petals one by one, around the centre. Move the petals upwards by about 1 mm, with each new layer of petals.
10. Cut a strip of green crepe paper about 5 cm by 14 cm. Fold and trim the edges into a zig-zag shape to make the sepals.
11. Apply glue on the sepals strip and attach it around the base of the flower.
12. Cut a square of green crepe paper, of size about 9 x 9 cm. Cut it diagonally into half.
13. Line up the 2 triangles of green crepe paper with the paper grain in opposite directions, as shown.
14. Apply glue on the diagonal edge of one of the green pieces. Place a piece of craft wire 12 cm long on the edge. Overlap and stick the second piece of green paper, as shown.
15. After it is dry, cut a leaf shape.
16. Make another leaf in the same way.
17. Cut a strip of width about 1 cm, from green crepe paper. Apply glue on it, and wrap it around the base of the flower, and the stem.
18. Attach the leaves at intervals, wrapping the leaf stalks with the main stem.
19. Open the petals of the flower as much as you like, to make it bloom.
20. Bend the leaves into a natural curve.
21. Your Chrysanthemum flower is ready!
Make a bunch of Flowers as a relaxing mindful activity. Use them to decorate with, or give a beautiful handmade gift to someone you love.
