Hello everyone! Today I'm going to show you how I created my work apron....a cross back apron that is made from patchwork...AND I quilted it! We add some upcycled denim pockets to carry all of our tools, and the best part is....we don't need a pattern! This is a one size fits all pattern tutorial :)

Love the video. You were talking about Goodwill. I found a brand new bolt of awesome denim. I'm talking the whole bolt for $4.99! My son immediately asked for a Men's Apron as he is Semi- Truck driver and owns 2 Semi trucks. He does allot of work when they break down, but mainly, when he checks the truck, sweeping, carpentry etc. I have seen some aprons they sell, but don't know how to do the neck band and tie around. I absolutely LOVE the Denim pockets. I do want to make an apron for the Men in my life (children, their spouses, grands, even great grands.) That tells you I am a 71 year old widow woman- 2 Cats. My mother was a seamstress and made everything. I loved it and she had me helping made my brother's shirts. ( Did great on the first arm although it was so hard on the next arm. When she had my brother try it on, I had seen the sleeve around the neck.) I have so much material and since this is my last go around, I love your style of free sewing. My family would love it. Excited about the aprons and any advice or expertise on the neck and waist strap for the Man's Apron would be deeply appreciated. Been in this about 14 months. You are an excellent teacher/ RU-vidr. PS I subscribed to you. 🥰😻

I love your apron! Great combination project for sewing & quilting. I'm fairly new to quilting. Long time apron maker. One request... don't show stitching over pins. It can dull the needle point or break pin/needle causing a danger of flying bits of metal. New Sewists might not know this. Pull pins right before stitching.

That can reverse as well. Use contrasting threads. Just connect all three fabrics, then turn to right side and quilt it. Then tack down all around outside. Nice idea. I would like to make it for a six year old. So, I'm thinking, just cut the squares down by two inches, and see how that would works.

All of the pockets and loops really make this apron so great lol! Ehhh.....some people sew over the pins....some don't. My machine doesn't have any issues with it.....however I do have a machine that catches them every time. When in dought.....take them out :) heheheeee
@marcialockhart890
@marcialockhart890 Год назад
Needles should never be sewn over! When a needle is hit, the machine needle will get a burr or snap in half. A small bit of the needle can get in the machine and cause damage in the machine, damage can occur over time to the upper part of the machine.
@ccbarr58

Machines used to sew over pins. These newer(computerized)ones drives me buggy. Use pins ,dont use pins. Going toget a normal machine and get rid of big huey.

Thank you for the inspiration. I’m a budding freemotion quilter that needs practice, but I was raised on waste not…want not. What a great way to learn the busy part and still have a nice gift (I’m getting tired of potholders). I like using warm and natural and have a bit of a stash. Doesn’t you bobbin area get loaded with lint if you’re sewing without a backing? Is this a problem?
@shelwhitley1011
@shelwhitley1011 Год назад
You will probably want to clean your bobbin area a little more frequently when sewing over raw batting, flannels, fleece and other nappy fabrics. I keep pipe cleaners in the top drawer under the machine or right on top where they're a handy reminder.

I love the idea of piecing and quilting the apron. Yours turned out so nice and the X back is so much better than the neck kind! I would like to make it out of 5" squares, since I have so many leftovers. Do you have a suggestion as to # in each row? I can't tell if it would be better to add or just let it be more narrow. Thanks! btw, I just found you recently, looking for help on printing quilt labels on fabric. I followed your instructions and it was a success! So you've got a new fan!
