In this video, I'll walk through my latest leather pattern for what I'm calling a Pocket Purse. It can be used as either a crossbody purse or a backpack, depending on the straps you use.
The pattern can be found in my Etsy shop here:

This unique pattern is for a purse that can expand open larger if needed. The large gussets fold inward to collapse when needed or expand open to hold more stuff. There's also an easy access pocket on the back of the purse.
I designed this to be strong, easy to put together, hand-stitch, and have a great finished product.
Measurements, other than stitching, were done in inches since I'm in the U.S. and only have access to hardware sized in inches.
Size of finished product: when closed, approximately 10 inches wide x 10 inches tall x 5.5 inch (at its widest bottom)
I recommend using a medium temper leather, and a 4-5oz weight. You could go stiffer, but I wouldn't use lightweight, floppy leather.
Pattern is set up for using a 1mm or 1.5mm punching hole, with 6mm spacing.
The straps I use are 1-inch, so I use 1 inch clasps. The D-rings I use are 3/4 inch.
