Just another idea for the ends that worked really well for me and VERY easy. After you cut your holes and clean out the downspout, take your pieces inside, bring a big pot of water to almost boiling....tilt the spout and just dip the bottom of the spout in the water for about 15+ seconds and place on counter with bottom up. With a gloved hand, make a fist and push down on end and mold. May have to double dip if needed.
Yes Sir sometimes we over look the easy ways of doing things. With you showing and teaching each step like this makes it where anyone can do it. Awesome how to series ya doing here buddy!
Thanks CB. I was spending a lot of time answering the same questions over and over. Now I will have a playlist to point them to if they do not find it themselves.
I just made eight of the 30" units last night. Another Pro Tip for your next video update......I also made a similar wooden jig (like the one you use to hold the spout to bend the ends). I found that using it to hold the entire grow box while drilling the 1 7/8" holes worked fantastic. It kept the downspout stationary while drilling the holes - keeping it from moving or spinning. Safer and easier for everyone!
🤣🤣🤣 Should have watched it again, I folded the ends before making the holes. I also cut at three feet instead of thirty inches, but I just started so no big deal. Thank you for the videos!
Your so kind with your time. Thank you. I plan on making one. The only thing different I would try it melting one end and installing a end piece on the other end. Plus I would spray pain outside to reduce chance of light causing algae
I’m over in Gainesville. Florida’s rough in the summer, I’m putting my little garden inside. Going to start a little hydroponic 18x48x70 shelf. You’ve inspired me.
I hope you'll find this a Huge help for you and everybody who is concerned about the spouts not being food grade. Mix good grade silicone add water and pour on the inside of the spouts turning and twisting covering that hole inside of the spout let it dry and then it's coated and food grade. 🕺💃🕺🌄😊😲😮😲
At the store Dollar Tree I found some sponges by Scrub buddies that were 3.35in x 2.75 in x 1.7 in that you could squeeze and fit into your 2 x 3 in elbow really nice. Now waiting for the aquarium silicone to come in to put together. Thanks for your great videos.
I've watched several of your videos, but for this one it would be super nice if you listed the sizes for both the gutter being used as the size of the size of the hole you're making.
I live in an apartment and don't have any of those tools. Going to using shallow plastic bin and pool noodles. Fingers crossed. But I love the ones he made look - very modern.
I did text my husband and I think he's on board!!! Btw, I have never subscribed to ANYTHING before you. You're my new best friend! lol (I think I'll try strawberries)
Use pvc pipe cement not silicone, its sold next to the water pipes cheap and easy. It welds the two pieces into one.(There may be cases where you don't want a permanent bond, but even silicone has many types of sealant and adhesive.) Also most people don't understand what "food grade" actually means. There are several different categories from bulk quantity food additives, down through "incidental contact" which basically means it should not be in normal contact with food but can be used in the same building where food is made because people won't die from accidental contact, and the limit for escaped contaminated food following an "incident" is only about 5ppm. This doesn't necessarily mean the item is generally unsafe but the manufacturer didn't want to pay for a higher certification(and insurance) because the market for the item doesn't need it.
Great info video for us dummies. NOW, I for one, would enjoy seeing the info video on how to make that Hydro-tin open flow grow bin you made using a cement tub, to grow those Leggie veggies to put in these Downspout grow boxes. Also, what size pump did you use?
Just found your channel and want to have a go at DIY Hydrophonic growing on a budget here in England This is a game changer! Many thanks! (Subbed btw!)
Thanks for the video! I'm setting up an aquaponics system and was looking at a cheap way to do NFT. Ill probably go with a regular gutter and fill it with gravel since that's cheaper here and bigger
If you DO end up going with the end adapters, Is there a reason why those couldn’t be used as additional plants spots? Maybe using a few noodles bits side by side? In lieu of covering up.
Hi Mike in England we only have 65mm (2 and half inches) square down pipes, Could you please tell me what drill cutter I need and how far apart I make the holes. Thank you
Annette Rose. I am in England as well, do a Google search for "white plastic ducting" (used for kitchen extraction) It's sold at Tool station, Wickes and B&Q. Should bring up a similar specification to what Mike is using. There are ends as well so don't even have to bother with a heat gun! I am going to try one on the fence in the garden!
@@KeepOnGrowin thank you. I think I will try a single section and use my indoor grow lights to givebit a shot. Hopefully once I figure that out I’ll be able to create something to grow some fodder for my chickens without it getting all nasty really appreciate the work you put in it it’s very helpful for money and again I appreciate it
Hi how’s it going? Enjoy watching your channel. I was wondering. Can I do 15’ in long pvc system with the static water process? I noticed you usually just do 4’ sections. Also, what is the best nutrients to start with? Much appreciate if you could help. Thanks!
Yes, thank you. Someone suggested that a while back and it works like a charm. I need to find his comment and say thanks. Thank you again, it really helps.
@@KeepOnGrowin Thank you. You mentioned that you should use a food safe caulk when sealing the end pieces if you decide to add the elbows instead of bending the ends. Do you know a safe brand. I am having difficulty locating it
