Here's the epic sequel to out Duct Tape Skirt video. We made this one for Fiona's Vanelope Von Sweetz Cosplay costume from Disney's "Wreck It Ralph". You'll need just under 4 rolls of Duck Tape and 4 sheets of poster board.

It's just an 18° pie-slice of a circle, with the point cut off so that the blunt end is 1/20 of your waist size. You can see it at about 1:20, though we ended up not needing the extra square tab at the top. Then slice it lengthwise so you get what you see at 2:12.

WOW! I just recently posted my Vanellope cosplay video about how I decorated the wig and hoodie but I haven't made the skirt yet. I'm so glad I found this video because I'll definitely have to make a skirt with these tips in mind. You guys are so fun to watch!

There's a diagram at about 1:17 Just figure out D, the Diameter of the inside of the skirt from your daughter's waist size. π x Diameter of a circle = Circumference of a circle. So Waist size ÷ π = the diameter for your pattern. Don;t worry - there's a π button on your calculator. You can see me use it in my Fez Math video.

This is great!! Thank you so much! I can't pull out the sewing machine with my toddler and I was at a loss on how to make a skirt for Vanellope. Now to try and figure out to how to accommodate my growing prego belly since I can't wait until the week of Halloween to make this.

could you just cover the whole board in duct tape, then draw and cut the shapes? you could cover the seams afterwards and do the edges as a whole unit. It seems to me that it would be a lot less tape and effort used overall...

I actually just used this as a guide to make my daughter's Halloween costume! Thanks for the idea on how to make the skirt. Her costume is "Little red riding hood" though. :)

How did you determine the length of the points for each segment? You had me on the math until that part! Great job- how many rolls did you use? 4?

hi - i followed the exact tutorial and my skirt keeps up creating a smaller circle for my wait - how can i fix this problem - what size of pleat do i use - my wait is 45" - any help would be greatly appreciated!

If it comes out too small for my waist then I plan on adding extra pieces until it is the right size.

Any tips on how to make this into a pair of shorts instead of a skirt? A group of friends and I are going to a local conversion as genderbent Wreck It Ralph characters so I'm going as male Vanellope.

That depends on the size of your kid. You figure out the width at the top based on her waist size - I've explained it on other comments you can see here. As for length, just hold a tape measure up to your kid and eyeball what looks right to you.

Hiya Mark and Fiona! Pretty awesome idea for Ms. Von Sheetz's skirt. My four-year-old wants to be Vanelope for Halloween, so this is perfect. My question, if you don't mind - how much would you alter the dimensions of the skirt from a 14-y.o. to a 4-y.o.? Alas, I did not major in math (strictly English maj. here...), so I'm a little unclear how to change the measurements. Any help would be most appreciated! - Loretta J.
