How to make a eurorack module

Here I make myself a useful eurorack module basically to fill an odd HP gap but making it useful enough to add midi to the Disting expert sleeper and external spring reverb to the music thing modular spring reverb unit.
HP sizes explained in the video.
**Its better to NOT ground the MIDI in socket** as I did in the video at 11:00. now ground has been removed from MIDI in.

Lots of 3hp modules out there, Erica’s pico series are especially useful :)

Mr. Fuller into eurorack... I *knew* this would be brilliant! 😁

Yes I am really liking the eurorack. so much easier to move from room to room than the big modular gear.

markusfuller you should have gone for Make Noise Maths ( most versatile and recommended module ever) Frequency Central diy kits ( sample & hold, envelop, ragging bull filter, ....) : )

Yes I thought the midi on this disting mk4 will be a useful thing to have. and just adding the socket with no circuit board needed is a must do thing.

Yay - always glad to see a new video of yours! Oh - and Doepfer have 1 hp spacers... Got myself all kinds of cover plates as I built up my own eurorack system (mostly Doepfer with some Dreadbox modules).

Hi, very interesting video! Where did you get the black anodised aluminium and what laser scriber are you using, pls? I'd really like a video on making and printing face plates. Thanks.

Loved to see how you do your panels! What‘s the model name of that blue device you use to cut aluminium panels and could you advice an adequate engraving solution for hobbyist budget?

I just got this Arturia set, but with the Minibrute 2 keys version. I haven't set up or filled the 6U yet. So, it will still have odd gaps if you START from the power supply onwards to the right instead of randomly working towards it from the middle?? Great video!

Nice build Markus! Buy a Befaco Rampage kit and pop that in. It’s going to give you some great envelope and modulation options that’ll go with your rig. I built one and added a Shades to get a Maths equivalent in DIY.

Nice video - the only problem I had watching it is the Big Clive hand's (as I call it) is causing me some DMS! (and I know its a dilemma about how far to have the camera from the action).

Very helpful! I didn't know about the inaccurate panel sizes compared to HP. Good to know. What is the machine you use to cut the panel at 7:04 called?

Get one of the Erica Synths Pico series. They are all 3HP and great. For 5HP modules, BASTL has several.

how do you cut it out off the aluminum blank? how much is this laser printing machine?

Interesting. This is the first time I've seen the HP of the power supply mentioned. An option for anyone who isn't so DIY-inclined is a 3HP module. Erica Synths make a few and searching Modulargrid for modules that are exactly 3HP (or another uneven number) should help fill the row.
@markusfuller
@markusfuller 6 лет назад
Yes I think the expansion module for the spring reverb is 3HP so I guess i could have used that - but the MIDI sockets would not have fitted.

Nice kit. I built one of those spring reverbs on my last system, I really need one for my new system too, they sound amazing. If you want some decent DIY modules for very little money and you're ok with SMD, check out the Pusherman website. Also Frequency Central make some good Roland-esque DIY modules if you prefer soldering Through Hole...

I enjoyed your Jasper synth build video, where Did you source all the parts for your Jasper synth ?. what was the estimated cost to complete it ?. - I will have a look at the Pusherman website, sounds interesting.

Thanks for the kind words, your videos are always interesting to watch. So far I've built 5 Jaspers. I keep a stock of bread and butter parts; MF resistors, capacitors of various types and values, transistors etc. Most of the other stuff is from the electronics market in Bangkok, known as Ban Mo, the Alpha pots are 1/10th of the retail price here, and definitely genuine, the chips are also easily obtainable there, not to mention rare parts, so it was a lot cheaper to build than sourcing from the UK.That's if you don't include the price of flights...
@markusfuller
@markusfuller 6 лет назад
LektroiD Thank you for that info. I will go and check that place out for the parts i need. i have about 50% of what i need in stock but its getting the time to work out and order what is left to complete the puzzle. im looking forward to making this synthesizer. best wishes from markus.

Looks very professional, Markus! Quick question: you glossed over the positioning and cutting of the holes - how was that done?
@markusfuller
@markusfuller 6 лет назад
Hello I just drew a line down the middle and then punched holes where i wanted the components making sure there was sufficient space for them to fit correctly. then drilled them out. sorry i cut that bit out as i was trying to get the video length to under 15 minutes.

Great video Markus! For those who watch this channel that don't want to DIY stuff or use a blank panel to fill in an odd hp gap; in addition to Erica Synths Pico line of 3hp stuff (that was mentioned in another comment), Bastl Instruments makes lots of 5hp modules, Malekko makes some useful 3hp modules too. Also older modules by The Harvestman are usually in odd hp sizes (Now known as Industrial Music Electronics).
@markusfuller
@markusfuller 6 лет назад
Thank You. I see theres many odd HPs to choose from. the extension out for the spring unit is 3HP but then i would not have been able to add the MIDI sockets. but i will go and check out the ones you have mentioned. best wishes.
