Appreciate this! Wasn't sure if I could use the stuff labeled for killing roaches.

Yup! that is what is in our mix. :)

I use boric acid for even melting gold or silver; for soldering I use boric acid and water (and sometimes borax); for killing roaches, it's better to use sodium bicarbonate than boric acid.

Hi! I use silver most of the time but I have used 14KY at times... for little embellishments.. balls, etc. My yellow turned rose gold! I know basically nothing about soldering gold--- and I have never used the boric acid/alcohol barrier. If I start doing this, will my yellow gold stay yellow?? I can't seem to find this answer anywhere else!! Help! LOL. Thank you!!!

Yes, if you use this mix or any other stopox type product like Firescoff, etc, it will keep your 14k yellow, yellow! I am sorry you had a hard time finding this information, this is common knowledge for metalsmiths who work in gold.

Is the boric acid you use 99% or 100%? Everything I see like that in the stores is 99% or less with other things added like LURE, whatever that is. Not sure if the other ingredients make it unsafe or not to have at the bench.

I use the boric acid found in roach killer, like this www.amazon.com/Zap-Roach-Boric-Roach-Killer/dp/B00LLQ4AU8?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=A2DB5OMOSIF4AG :)

Hello!! I was wondering something, I have made this fire coat but the boric acid does not dissolve in the denatured alcohol. i shake it up before dipping as you’ve taught me. i noticed though that if the little grit from the boric acid remains on the sterling it can sometimes create what looks like pitting in the silver that is hard to remove/ refine. have you ever found this to happen ?

Interesting, I have never seen that before. You have to sand it off?
@Shukarr

Yes I have to sand way down. Weird eh?

Hello Jeanette, Thank you very much for your video. I have little problems to get boric acid in Gernany. Liquid boric acid is not available. There is only in the dry form as flakes. Can I use this also, do you know, if I can put it directly in the alcohol or I have to dissolve it first in water? Do you know how many percent boric acid has your roachkiller? I wish you a nice Sunday. Greetings from Germany Maren

@@marenc9648 no water. Only denatured alcohol and boric acid. The boric acid should be in powder form. Perhaps you can purchase boric acid from a jewelry supply business.
