Imagine a world where all the know it all’s and people who constantly critique people actually were productive and made their version to help instead of ACTING superior behind a computer. 👍
Thank you for the video. Made mine today. Was able to fit 17 rods spaced 4 inches apart on a 6 foot board. Looks awesome and happy with the results. Good father/son project for us.
Thanks for this video! It inspired me to build an 8’ version in my garage. I don’t understand all the a-hole comments, and I liked the way you responded. Appreciate it!
i inherited several rods when my father past a few yrs ago. they were just stacked up on a shelf. Yesterday I built your holder based on your plans. turned out great and I can preserve his rods forever now. thank you for the tutorial and the plans.
"I'm not a carpenter, guys, I'm a fisherman." I love the honesty and down to earth-ness. I am in the middle of making one of these as well and am excited to finally get the rods put up. Thank you for the project and the reassurance that fellow non-carpenters can make one as well.
Super cool and I will be making one for my man cave. In the future, measure 1 3/4 from the edge for your center mark. A 1x4 is actually 3 1/2" not 4". Good vid.
This was exactly what I was looking for, thanks so much for making this video. I mounted mine on the wall so I cut all of the jig saw cuts in the same direction which worked out all. I think if I were to do it over again I would make them larger, maybe 6 feet to hold more rods.
I made mine 48 inches long. I allowed 3/4" on the starting end. I got 12 holes because I went every 3 inches from the outside of the circle. I used my adjustable T square and put that on the outer most edge of the circle and made a 45 degree angle line and then I drew the line on the opposite end. No need to measure an inch. Came out beautiful. Thanks for the video.
Joshua, Great work and very informative! One thing I would like to add is when measuring to install the brackets on the wall/ceiling use your shortest rod/reel set for a guide. Someone (me) may have rushed to install this setup and spread the brackets to far apart and the shorter rods would not fit! haha
This was exactly the simple one I been looking for, lol... I been so over thinking it and procrastinating on making one. I thank you much for the video....
Great video I will be storing some of my rod's this way. Personally I'd mark all holes first. Put your drill in lower speed (1) drilling mode. You may find it easier to pre-drill the holes before you use a "hole saw". Finish edge with a router (if you own one) and for your slots I would just of turned the level on its edge to mark both lines. I probably sound criticizing, I don't mean it to be, just trying to help others, Take care Tight lines, p.s. I'm a Carpenter "and" a Fisher. ;)
Thanks for the comment, trust me, you could make this thing look 500 times better than mine lol. They work great and I will store the suggestions for my next project.
Just some helpful advice for you. Your level is 1 inch wide, and lay out the hole centers on all holes before drilling any holes. Awesome rod rack. Will make one like it for inside my truck topper.
awesome idea. I hung this vertically between the studs in my garage. keeps them up and out of the way. No more broken tip. is that a Keter table with a router insert. I need one of those.
Hey im new here now started watching your videos and i just taught that it was cool to hear music from the Caribbean played by the national instrument of my country of Trinidad and Tobago played by a snow cone van in another country
I now have made 3 sets of these. Much better than the saggy Berkeley strap system I have used for 20 years. These look much neater hanging in my basement and are easier to load rods in and out. I have room for 11 rods in each unit, a bit more that what I need but always room to grow a bit.
Just made mine to your exact specifications & only came out with 8 slots 👍. Must have been 52 inches to start 😁 but no biggie. Wife is happy that my rods are not all over the house. This should convince her to let me buy some Salty Scales swag from your website🙏. Awesome Video bud. Thanks for taking the time to put out a video on how to make these. Before i forget. Only cost me $15. That was for the wood, brackets & sand paper. 🎣😎🎣😎🎣😎🎣😎🎣
That turned out pretty cool. Thanks for the idea Joshua. You have a new subscriber from North Carolina. Looking forward to checking out some of the fishing videos.
You're welcome, they are easy and fun to make. They really separate the rods nicely also. Hit that subscribe button for more to come. Thanks for watching.
Hey thanks just made mine today. I had some Left over wood. but I did mine 3 feet 7 Poles fit in their. and used 3/4 x 3 1/2 pine. came out cool painted it black.
nothing is 100% perfect, that's the fun part of diy projects. they have a personal touch to them nice work! and awesome fun video recommend using pencil for markings, ask inks will 'soak' into the timber and usually require more sanding effort
great video......I followed your instructions to a tee. The only thing I added was a third rail....the rods I have are about 7 feet, so when i set up the rack my rods would bow, the third rack solved the problem.
Great video! I just made me a couple for my rods. Your wife did great with the camera... The music was perfect!!!! One last thing. No job is worth a speeding ticket.....
Braddah! Great tutorial! Looks very clean! I got back into surf fishing here in Cali and I needed one of these! Looking forward to trying AND you got some Kona Ice too?!? Solid!
I saw something you could do on your holes to keep them from having so many splinters. When you drill your holes, once the drill bit goes through the wood turn it over and drill the other side to the center. This will keep the outside of the board from splintering. What store did you get that can of paint from?
You .did a pretty good job on that fishing rod holder .very easy to make If I could make a suggestion. next time the snow cone truck comes They sell these little bottles of liquor. Put one of those in there upside down. I noticed your buddy was drinking. Lol I'm from Austin Texas we put bottles of Corona beer inside Margaritas upside down. Lol😀😀😀😀
Hey, I made a set and am very happy with them. I used 3/4 plywood because it's what I had. Only problem is I should have made 2 pair. Got lots of rods.
made one similar a few years ago, I used one board that I ripped after I made the holes. I finished up the sharp edges with a router. I was still hoping you would show it flow it the dark, that is new and nice.
Nice! How far apart do you have each section? I'd imagine you had to measure out a certain distance between the two racks to prevent the blanks from sagging - is it like 4 feet between them?
I would of marked 2 in on both ends and snapped a chalk line and then ran the tape the length of the boards and marked every 4 in. 4, 8, 12, etc. Little easier than sticking the tape in the center of the hole haha. Good shit though nonetheless. Will be doing this tomorrow. Cheers brother and tight lines!
Great project. Gonna make a set. Curious question. The wide slot for the small end of the pole, looks like the lip is quite small or narrow. Do you have any issues with the poles falling out if gently bumped?
I AM a wood worker..LOL... and I fish also. I would do one added thing and that would be rout all the ends and the holes. Otherwise i will be building one of these here soon. Thanks and good job.
Ok, so my phone is definitely listening to me. I made a similar version of this rod storage last weekend, I've never searched RU-vid about doing anything like this and your video comes up in my suggestions lol.... your version looks much better though, good job :)
Just completed this project. I used your video tips but used deck board instead. That extra 1.5 inches made a difference ( insert that's what she said joke here).
Thanks for the how to -- a roundover bit on your router would make it look more 'pro' and easier to get your rod guides through. It's also funny that I got an ad for a $19.99 wall mount holder from Academy on your video...but the academy one is less slots and probably not as secure :)
Great job. I got one question. When marking out the angle where the rod tip goes. Why the first 5 angles go one way and the remaining 5 go another way?
I don’t see a response from Joshua but my assumption (you know what they say about those) is for aesthetics.. it looks nice, to me at least, with it alternating halfway
i know youre no ta carpender, but marking with the thickness side of the level would save time mesuring and marking a second parallele line (level is 1 inch thinck) good idea and nice job, thanks for sharing you could also drill and cut over a garbage can that way there is less cleaning.
We all start somewhere! You have some skills and you have the desire. Curious, how much more skilled are you now that its three years later? Good job, keep at it.
Good job. My DIY is much more simple. A 1x3x48" hung 4" below the exposed trusses to hold the rod butts (they can be slid around on the 1x3) and large screw hooks in another truss to hold the rod tips. Your design sure looks a lot nicer than mine.
