You have much more patience than me. I do like the biscuit cutter trick. I’m going to try it. Thanks.

Great video! Were the rabbets pre-milled on the walnut or did you do it yourself?
@JamesCrandallPainting
@JamesCrandallPainting 4 года назад
Thanks, Farooq! I bought these moldings from a planing mill, so the rabbets are there (and the mill provides the basswood backer strips to fit). I have in a pinch made my own from hardwood lumber, but of course that’s extra steps: table saw, surface planer, router table. ..a bit of a bother, but not too complicated. The mill is Foster Planing Mill in Los Angeles, if that helps. Nice people.

Nicely done. Looking for a different way to fix the painting into the frame - never liked those screws going into the stretcher. Have you seen any other good methods?

Could this be done without the nail gun?
@JamesCrandallPainting
@JamesCrandallPainting 8 месяцев назад
Yes. Without a nail gun I would hold each joint in a clamp, pre-drill holes for small nails and tap them in gently…them ideally leave the joint clamped until the glue cures

Oh...it wasn’t my painting, it was my wife’s, and she was rushing off with it. Anyway, the video is about framing, right?

Where did the rabbits come from? Already there?
@JamesCrandallPainting
@JamesCrandallPainting Год назад
Yes, the walnut moulding came from the Foster Planing Mill in Los Angeles with the rabbet cut. They also sell the backing strips. It possible to make these rabbets in lumber with an electric router, of course, or with hand tools as I show here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uk1fCv9jSsk.html

so many amateur artists do not own a power saw so like many other videos on this subject, it is not relevant.
@JamesCrandallPainting
@JamesCrandallPainting Год назад
Okay. I guess the next question would be, how hard would to be to make these cuts with a handsaw?
@JamesCrandallPainting
@JamesCrandallPainting Год назад
As a matter of fact, I have bought an expensive saw / miter box combo to see what is possible - if I get around to making a video of this
