Jessie, thank you for your teachings and videos. Watching your videos I was able to use your techniques and some of my own experimentation to make 20+ medicine bags. I made each bag unique, included the four sacred medicines in each bag, smudged each bag and will be gifting to family members as a reminder that they are all connected. I have stage 4 cancer and I thought this would be a good way to pass on one of the 7 grandfather teachings to my family before my spirit continues it's journey. I have to add that your videos are quite soothing, I could sit with you for hours on your porch crafting. Miigwech for your gift! Giga-waabamin naagaj!

@@jessiedew9215 Thank you so much, Jessie! I have been purchasing leather scraps and leather lace to craft medicine bags/pouches from Northland Visions in Minnesota, not too far from where I live, so I can hand-pick pieces, but they are currently out of stock for about a while. I appreciate you taking the time to respond and share where you purchased supplies. Thanks again. 🙏🏻

My grandpa wore one for as long as I’ve been alive, he filled it with gold, quartz, minerals, deer eye and other things he found. I got to wear his favorite one at his funeral and I feel like it made me tougher. I never knew much about it as I only saw him wearing it. The day after his funeral I saw a family with medicine bags on.

Miigwetch/Thankyou! I followed your instructions and made a couple with some poor quality leather that i had laying about but the skin cracked and some of it shredded! I did get some decent deer hides that i will now use. What hides do you like to use for what projects? By the way I like that you're outdoors and hearing the different birds in your videos!

for moc's I like moose for medicine bags I use small scraps that I can not make much from both Deer and Moose . Gloves I like to use Moose however Deer if fine . basically thicker for anything you want to last a very long time . if your budget is limitless buffalo(bison) is the best
@jj.1412
@jj.1412 2 года назад
@@jessiedew9215 You reminded me to cut out the bag and mocs i want to make first! Such a commitment to cut into a hide. Yes bison would be nice but for now deer seconds will have to do. I do like your salvaged couch leather! Any suggestion as to what parts of the hide may be best for certain pieces? Maybe a discussion for another video. Many thanks am learning much and passing it on what i learn.
@jessiedew9215
@jessiedew9215 2 года назад
@@jj.1412 thicker leather is towards the back of the hide. best thing for these pieces is durability, most factory leather has been shaved to the same thickness . second hand stores are best to get old furs and leather perfect if your starting out or on a strict budget . yes the old couch leather I made a fringe purse with and sold it. let's just say it bought me several pieces of new leather to work with. thanks for watching

Ah so same as with cowhide which i am more familar with. I shall visit second hand shops with different eyes now..funny enough someone in my area is already going around cutting up curbed couches. Still going over the bag video to help with my pattern drafting. Many thanks and hope you make a few more videos they are perfectlu done and helpful.

you can use chamaios the leather they use to clean cars. It is sheep skin anyway. I use it to teach people how to make baby mocassins and pouches as buckskin is so expensive. They have it in Wallmart and Canadian Tire but find theirs a little expensive. Also if you have a Dollerama sometimes they have them in there around car supplies. Hope this helps.

Hi Jessie, I’m a beginner and ive been searching RU-vid for a medicine bag I can make and gift my husband, I stumbled across yours and knew this one is perfect! This is a suggestion and mean no disrespect , I often look in the description for the tools that were used, any measurements etc. Being new there are many things I don’t know what they are called or what size needles would be the best to work with. I have you pinned to my favourites and subscribe to your channel so I can continue to learn. Is there anything else can be used besides the hole punches? ( think that’s what you called them ) Thanks so much for your knowledge and videos greatly appreciated 💕

For the ‘medicine’ to work, you should never reveal to anyone what you keep in it, no one knows what’s in mine.
