The bread you need is Japanese milk bread, different than white bread. Most people think regular white bread is being used, it makes a difference. As suggested, check out asian grocers.

@@immentallystableguys I imagine it would taste good, the difference though is the idea of making a fruit sandwich versus a cake (strawberry shortcake). I think the the cake would certainly be good, just different. I doubt anyone would complain. If you watch videos from from various shops that specialise in making these you will also see there are various cream fillings which adds another level. Depending on where you are at baking wise there are recipes for milk bread as well, if you have a bread maker that will also make it easier. So many options. Have fun with it, that is all that matters.

It will melt, and whipped cream wouldn’t be a thick cream so it will taste bad and not stuffy.
