This is an easy way to make a DIY garden bed. Building garden bed yourself can be done over a weekend and you will save a lot of money by doing it yourself. You can build a garden bed of any shape or size by following the steps in this video. The raised timber garden bed is made of treated pine sleepers and will last for many years to come. You and your family will be able to grow fruit and vegetables and reap the rewards. When selecting the treated pine sleepers, try and buy ACQ (Arsenic Free) treated pine sleepers
rather than CCA (Copper chrome arsenic). Depending on who you speak to, some will claim that the arsenic may leach into the soil so better safe than sorry. For more DIY and How to videos LIKE COMMENT and SUBSCRIBE.

Videos are absolutely brilliant. I went to YT looking on how to remove a broken key in a lock. Now I'm considering making Raised garden beds 😂

Great job Bill. Nice that you have so much space to facilitate growing your own food. Fair play for pointing out the build error. For any novice DIYer's out there watching the video, it lets them know that no one is infallible and we all make mistakes.

Hi Bill, awesome job mate, and your 100% on the growing your own fruit and veg, I planted lemons seeds, and grew about 38 of them, I kept the first one that sprouted, his name is Bruno, and gave all the rest away to family and friends, that was around 5 years ago, Bruno has produced the biggest, juiciest lemons you’ll ever taste, as big as a grapefruit if not bigger, so this is the next part I’m going to build, as Bruno’s in the ground, the rest I’ll be using this method, thanks again for your great video’s 🤙🏼🇦🇺 Joe in Australia 🤙🏼🇦🇺

Definitely happy to see what you grow. That’s a beast of a raised garden bed - will you irrigate it too? The soaker ones work well
@genericrobin6597
@genericrobin6597 Год назад
They look great. Do raised beds have benefits besides looking pretty? Filling then with soil must be expensive.
@billshowto
@billshowto Год назад
Less bending so you will save your back👍 . Regarding filling with soil, there are many ways around this if you have a higher garden bed. The base can be filled with timber, logs or branches. You can also create a hollow base with a shelf so that you only have to fill it half way

Hi thanks for the video . Can you please mention the measurements of boards and screws. It will be easy to buy when we have the measurements. Thanks
@billshowto

200x50 timber sleepers. Screws were 80mm coated pine screws and 200mm for the long joining screws

It’s called Garden mix. You can buy it in bags from hardware/garden stores or in bulk from landscape suppliers depending on where you live👍

Great video Bill, would love some videos on planting fruit and veggies. Quick question your trick connecting the top and bottom sleepers to avoid any bowing or warping, would it also work for connecting planks of wood to be used as an office desk? Thanks as always the the insightful and interesting content!!!
@billshowto
@billshowto Год назад
Hi, you could definitely do that. It may be difficult to do though depending on the thickness of the wood. May be easier to use dowel rods with glue 👍

Solid 👍 how far apart roughly are the long screws along the long walls? What about screwing some composite decking/screening to the faces for the finish?

About every 80-100 cm depending on overall length. Sounds good👍👍👍

awesome video ❤ but what would happen if roots will go deeper?
@billshowto

I am only planting vegetables in these garden beds so that won’t be an issue. Large trees or plants with a large root system shouldn’t be planted in a garden bed 👍

This is really cool, but I can't help but see $$$$. I tried to price up something similar and it was nearly $1000 in timber! What did this set you back at bunnings?
