This is not workingg for me. When I follow these instructions exactly, all it does is demand I save the layer as another file. It does NOT add the layer as another layer to the existing .png. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Yes, your do this wrong way. If you follow the instruction of the video you can do it easily. let me know what problem you are facing.

@@GraphicsSolutionTrick I slowed the video down and followed your exact motions. I could not reproduce the result that you produced. No matter how many times I repeat the action it fails to respond the way your video responds. I can only assume I am on a new version of photoshop and this information is no longer current. Or perhaps you are using a different version of photoshop. I do know i'm not willing to invest more time as i've found a different solution.
