As an electrician it's hard to watch someone wrapping wires around terminals against the turn of the nut as a mechanic it's hard to watch someone turn a nut with the wrong tool as a DIY guy with a little electronic expieriance. Nice Job welding😁

The trouble with these designs is regulation. These capacitors discharge relatively quickly and you need a lot of current to keep them in a constant state. You just can't recharge the caps fast enough to make constantly good welds. They work okay for the first couple of welds but then fade quickly.

When making a Battery Bank of Multiple cells, the Size of the Spot weld must be taken into consideration. Contact Surface area. A small spot size will not transfer high currents. it is NOT enough to have the connection only be made by a tiny spot weld.

RadioShack is still around. They like everybody else are transitioning towards online sales with a 10% off coupon for you're email address at you're next purchase. The closest store is more then 30 minutes away and they did close a bunch of stores. I'm not sure how they will compete online with digikey. Digikey having a complete technical department and RadioShack with a teenage cashier that completely doesn't give a f#ck
@David-bc4rh

The radioshack closest to my home is 15minutes and they don't stock any Li-ion at all. Multimeter terminals are 18$ so I had to rig up my M1015B with bolt terminals in place of the sockets. It's super dangerous now but now I can use anything for my multimeter leads.

Hi. It has taken me a few days to see many of your videos and I don't know what conclusion to draw. I understand that you like science and spend a lot of time on inventions that seem interesting. However, some of them cause doubt because they are clearly false, which goes against those that are not, because they leave uncertainty about whether one can trust everyone. I guess it would help a lot if you give explanations of what you intend with the fake ones, if they are a joke and, with respect to the real ones, that you justify with more data, as many people usually do in their channels, how you perform your experiments. This suggestion I think is in your benefit. Greetings and apologies for my gross English.

What is the purpose of the middle relay? I built one with only one small relay feeding the large high-current relay. I did increase the capacitor's value since the resistance of the larger relay's coil is a fraction of the smaller relay. Actually, I built it without any additional relays, just the high-power relay controlled by a toggle switch. In one switch position, it charges the capacitor, in the other, it activates the relay. The size of the capacitor determines how long the relay is active.

The current dosen't necessarly kill you because the voltage is very low compared to high resistance human body .
@chrisbrett1857
@chrisbrett1857 3 года назад
It takes only a relatively small current to cause serious injure, or even death - tens, or a few hundreds, of millamps only. BUT to do so, that current must enter your body, and in order to do that it generally has to overcome the resistance of your skin. DRY skin is a good insulator with a VERY high resistance, and to overcome that requires a high voltage. This is why it is safe to touch the terminal of a 12V car battery (a powerful current source) with your bare hands - provided they are DRY. Wet you skin, pierce your skin with the electrodes, touch your tongue - you lose the protection of dry skin, and all bets are off ! Ohms law rules !
@istvanjanosnagy7962
@istvanjanosnagy7962 3 года назад
@Mihály Tóth The extent of a fatal electric shock is determined by the strength of the current flowing through the human body, not by the voltage it has caught. Low voltage can be fatal even at low voltages. This is a simple biological law.

???? With the readily available quantity of high current MOSFETS available for free out of just about ANY old PC it would be FAR better to use them instead (multiple parallel config). Plenty of other designs about that use this technique for switching VERY high currents up to 500A or even more. I'm sure that with a better design a MUCH smaller value capacitor value could also be used enabling a faster recharge between welds. I've successfully spot welded previously with a 50v 60,000 uF power capacitor from a mid 70's computer power supply and two prongs at the end of two wires. The basic principle is simple, the best designs for a more sophisticated welder should also be simple but effective!

So what is your power source to charge the supercap? Your schematic doesn't indicate any connection to it.

Guess you just have to interpolate the video, and add the low voltage power supply.

He used a buck down regulator connected to the three 18650 cells and we saw him adjust it to 2.7V on the digital display. This was connected directly to the capacitor with those thin wires we saw him wind around the big studs. It wasn't in the schematic but we saw him connect it.

Ok. So your saying that that single capacitor holds 200 amps @ 2.7 volts. Then 10 would hold 2000 amps in parallel, 2.7 v, and 200 amps in series at 27 volts. I guess. Not a whole lot of amps there. And only 100 amps at 13.5 volts 5 in series. 10 put together would make 1000 amps at 13.5 volts then ? That's 50 caps to make the 1000 amps I guess. Anyone know what these 2.7 3000f caps can store in amps in the real world ?

The important point is needing to have as low a resistance as possible. This is, after all, a short circuit across the welding contacts. Any resistance at all will reduce current flow. Not sure why a few people have mentioned high current being dangerous. It has no shock value with the low voltages being used. It's the voltage that can kill you. The worst thing high current can do is if its sufficiently high you can get a really nasty burn from metal melting that you may be leaning on. Phew, owe owe. What's that smell, oh it's me. By the way I was right, the 3000 Farad 2.7 volt capacitor was easy to find on banggood.com and was only $36. Not bad. I think I would consider using an automotive starting solenoid as the heavy duty relay. They are designed to conduct heavy currents and are easy to find at the auto wreckers.
