From a generation of master craftsmen lessons pass on to a new generation of rather talented and creative people who have produced works of artistic beauty and functionality that belays the pragmatic risks involved for workers nevertheless it doesn’t subtract from the incredibly beautiful finish product
Generally speaking, hookah pipes are used for a particular mix of tobacco and molasses. In India, it was just the tobacco and molasses syrup, no flavourings. In Middle Eastern countries, flavourings such as fruit flavours are added. The tobacco mix is so sticky with the molasses, it needs to have charcoal piled on top. This effectively means that the tobacco mix is distilled and vapours are produced. It is not being burnt, as such, just heated up. Hash, or charas, as it is known as in India, is traditionally smoked in chillums, nowadays, cigarettes are emptied of their tobacco, mixed with the charas, tipped back in the hollow tube and smoked, the filter is also removed, half taken out, the remainder fluffed up and stuffed back in. I was often told, charas is injurious to health if smoked alone🤣. Should have said, the grass is also processed with ghee and spices and drunk, this is called bhang.😁
The finished hookahs are beautiful. It is interesting to see all of the steps to make one and then the engraving. I hope that the craftsmen working with the molten metal don't get any on their bare feet.
