You can use this technique to alter the shoulders and sleeves on any jacket or dress pattern. Varying the amount you add to the height and width of the shoulder will alter how big and dramatic you make it.
I’ve been looking for monthssss trying to figure out if the lining is supposed to be the same as the outer fabric when using shoulder pads!!! Thank you so much for this video! Lifesaver!
Thank you. I was inspired by a recent Alexander McQueen show that had extended shoulders with a draped sleeve and had no idea how to achieve it. Your tutorial has helped me with a starting part.
Really helpful video. I'm trying to copy a 30s real fur capelet in faux fur because, while I love the shape, real fur isn't for me. Thanks for giving me a jumping off point for my cruelty free version of a vintage classic!
This is EXTREMELY helpful for me, since next year I'll be making a cosplay of Alastor from Hazbin Hotel and he has exaggerated shoulders in his design Thank you so much
Definitely need to make this. But I wished you would have showed the sewing part as well bc I’m lost to how to attach the back and the front together… new to costume sewing
Fantastic. So glad to hear it was helpful to you. It stumped me for a while! It might take a bit of trial and error to get the exact look you're after so I'd definitely recommend doing a toile as you make your pattern. Have fun creating and thanks for watching 💖
How is the curvature ratio decided on the front and back armholes? like why are they not the same front and back? I mean why is the front armhole curvature more pronounced?
Do these pads start to fall after a bit? My experience with stuffing has been that it gets flat and compressed after a bit. (That is in pillows and such, so it might be different) but is there other ways to get the same sort of shape???
I've not had a problem with them compressing or falling, maybe because they're not being sat on or squished like a pillow? I've not used this technique in garments that are going to be worn or washed a lot though, so don't know how it would hold up then. As an alternative you could possibly cut foam to the right shape for support.
Thanks for the feedback. I can see it all clearly on my screen (laptop and phone). I'm not sure why the brightness is different for you sorry. Maybe it varies between devices? I'll see if I can film with more contast in the future. Thanks for watching.
