I just measure myself with a measuring tape where ever the measurements on that paper are and add inches to make sure its not too small 😁

Sorry for the super late reply. I measure across the shoulders, then the bust, my stomach. Arm length too, from the shoulder seam, I always make the arms longer now too because on this dress my arms were a bit too short. Then I usually make the bottom of the dress like 60"ish around to have lots of room for walking and dancing. Connect the bottom length to the stomach measurement and that's how you'll get the flair of the dress. And also add a couple inches from your original measurements!

You can measure across your shoulders on the back, like shoulder seam to shoulder seam, or use a shirt that you have too

Then just measure around bust, and then I measure around where my belly button is and add like 2ish inches to that

I think I do 8" all around, and then in the front you cut it lower, I think I do like 2" lower

I used 200, it's not too heavy. The dress I made recently was 300. I felt the burn 😄 you get used to it though after a powwow or two

I'm not sure exactly how long they are, ill guess about 2 inches in length

I’m making a jingle dress for my daughter for the first time; I got one of her shirts that is well-fitting (not tight, not baggy) and folded it in half (it helps if you can iron the shirt so it lays flat. I traced around her shirt to make a pattern on regular paper, but make sure you can get the seams to lay flat to get a truer outline. I used a short sleeve shirt, then just traced the pattern without sleeves for now, but I suppose I’ll find sleeves of a long sleeve shirt that fits nicely to use.

For our tribe, the amount and placement of jingles depends on the dream you have for it.

Folklore, traditions, & dreams are all well & good, & deserving of all our respect. Traditions are not static. They live & breathe. So anyone can make anything according to their own dream. Everyone can add to the culture. Surely you would allow traditions to be adaptable to individual needs. I don't know how much 365 cones would weigh; seems like a lot. Some people, like children, elders, & those with physical limitations like heart & lung disease might not be able to sustain wearing the additional weight. It also seems like a jingle dress can get very expensive in a hurry -- fabric, ribbon, jingles, bias tape, thread, zipper, etc. Couldn't a person make a dress in stages, adding jingles in stages as they can afford the time & money to do so? I would like to make a jingle dress ... one of these days. Wish me luck!

Yes, make sure your jingles are evenly spaced so it doesn't sag to one side.

All this info was useful, my daughter just started dancing and I bought her first dress, but now I can attempt to make my own style jingle dress for her 😀 thanks for the two videos. My next goal, learning to bead hair accessories/chokers/earrings 👍🏽

A word from an outsider here (I am not Native). I just started watching lots of videos on ribbon skirts & jingle dresses. It seems that lots of you ladies are pretty much self taught re sewing. And you freely admit it, saying "I'm just trying my best." Yet you produce beautiful, breathtaking garments. You come up with your own designs & patterns. You have minimal, just basic equipment. & you share. This is most important. Knowledge keepers are not meant to keep knowledge to themselves. So, yes, please share your knowledge from beginning to end. Judging from the comments, there are plenty of people hungry for guidance & instruction. If anyone is too impatient to listen to the basics, they can go on their own way. Maybe they will reinvent the wheel. My respects to all of you. Thanks for sharing!
