Hi crafty folks! Do you enjoy seeing junk mail turned into junk journal ideas? Please let me know in your comments! I can make more embellishments, adornments and faux-phemera and journals from this free resource if you would like to see it! Just let me know! :) I am always happy to hear from you! :)
Well, since you are asking.......I have been wanting to bring this up for a while now so here goes. Faux Homemade Paper. Have you seen it yet? It looks amazing and I've been saving up stuff like my silk threads so when I make some glue I can try my hand at this faux paper thing, but...... I would LOVE to see what you would do with it. I think it's "Treasure Books" that has the video on how to make it, but I wouldn't be quoting me on it if I were you. Haha. Anywho, hope you try it . It looks like a lot of fun. And I hope you have a beautiful day today and every day. 🤗
Hi Elizabeth, thanks, I had not yet heard of this. I will check it out :) I have made paper from scratch before from junk mail soaked, pulped, blended in a blender then couched etc. Very fun process! I made so much I still have lots from...about 10 years ago! Thanks :)
Good morning Pam, I'm just a beginner and I just love all the help you have given me. I am 71 yes. and have been a crafter for years. But I decided to do crafts a little more easy on the body. I love the junk journals. Thank you for helping me get started on a new journey in life. Crafts was an amazing part of my healing from stage 4 Colon cancer. You are a wonderful teacher so keep teaching. Your new friend Sharon Harper
I made a nice hot cup of Earl Grey ☕️ and thought the perfect way to start the day would to hang out with Pam and learn how to make another great paper “something”. I love all things steam punk... Pam you are wonderful. Thank you for all you do. 🙏🏻💐❤️. I am watching and learning and have ordered quite a few items from your Amazon store...I love the use of your tea towel for the inside cover. I have old stained cotton tea towels which i will use. Thank you for that idea.
Pam, I have a large box of junk journal papers, stamps, cards took, glue etc. Perhaps soon I will finish the journal binding. I just want to tell you how very much I enjoy watching your utube videos. Sometimes I watch 3 episodes in a row. Your voice actions, voices and way is so much like I would like to be!
Hi Pam and SunBun!! I'm about 3 years too late in commenting. I have seen most of your videos over the last 3 and some odd years and you never cease to amaze me. See your next video on Monday. Happy crafting!!!
I was not a subscriber and your channel with this wonderful tutorial popped up in my feed. I just love this technique and using junk mail. I’m looking forward to watching the rest of this and I am now a subscriber.
So far so good. I had wondered about the fabric you used so I peeked at comments & replies and found I was correct in my thinking it was the flour sack tea towel from Walmart I bought them when out church ladies had a night at the home of one of them who does embroidery with a machine...oh my she did some really cute ones. We got to pick our subjects from her many patterns. I love the fabric, so this is great..I only used one of the two I bought so guess what I'm going to use it on... yeah....Thank you for all your great inspirational ideas. Now I have to continue on with the next videos. TTFN... Ta ta for now! 🥰. You too Mr. Fluffy Pants. Don't chew mom's flip flops. 🤪❤️
I love the colors it was before adding the gesso. I should be able to use clear gesso and keep those colors. It also would not require painting. Probably add an extra gesso layer to allow for the extra coverage the paint would have given it. After all, it is only paper! I wonder what smart person said that? 😀
I've liked looking at and watching people make their handmade journals but never wanted to do one. Geez. You make me want to test the waters. Oh my, how much fun the way you paint...just put the paint on the brush and go for it! I'm going to have to watch all 3 of these then do my own! As you know, I love watching your process! "Its just paper."
Awesome I love your video, it’s well put together and not hard to hear or understand, as an older person I really appreciate that! Thank you for sharing!
Hi, I have been papercrafting for many years but have had a big break because I started adult colouring. You have inspired me to start paper crafting again as you have so many brilliant ideas. I am going to get all my supplies out again and follow your ideas. Thank you for being a motivating force.
Good morning dear here we go I am ready with coffee and pen and paper for note taking . Love starting my morning with you . BIG FLUFFY HUGS TO YOU MY DEAR.
I’m new too, and agree these explanations are fantastic to learn with so thank you Pam. I haven’t made one yet! So want to get stuck in, just gathering some papers and bits n pieces for it at the moment, what my hubby would say, you procrastinating again Irene! Errrmmmmm nooooooo, 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm absolutely in love with this journal idea!! I'm a fan of steampunk and can't wait to make this!! As always thank you for the inspiration. The eyelets are fabulous! Pam, you've done it again!! 😁🌹
I saw some older journals you made and I just can't get enough. I saw some of your water color picks and they are beautiful. I would live for you to copies a bunch of florals and sell them.
I am retired and it seems as I wat h several different podcasts it seems there is a lot of equipment, items needed . Several things other podcasters mention as necessary or very. Rey helpful. I am retired and already have a yarn addiction. You take into account economics. I appreciate that .
Sincerely, thanks for your feedback! It helps me a lot to know if my message is coming across clearly :) Thanks for watching and listening! :) Yes there are craft supplies and tools around us everywhere! Shop at home first :)
Oh Pam - this is a wonderful project! I am retiring at the end of next week - and this may be my first project "on the other side"! You brighten my days every time I watch a video of yours. Thank you! A question - what sort of fabric do you recommend for the inside cover? Thanks!
Hi Mary, here I used a floursac cotton tea towel I bought from Walmart but you can use any fabric. I think thin to medium thickness works best. Cottons, muslins, work well, I stay away from sheers though for the inside. Hoping this helps :)
Pam my dear friend this is simply magnificent❣️ TFS! I really don't care what the content is just keep your videos coming just love them!!🐞💜🥰🕉️💚🌻💙☯️🤗💛🦋
This is such a great idea Pam, I’ve used tissue paper to make a cover with a envelope; this is definitely a must try for me. My grand daughter loves to glue my scrap paper’s, I will have her do this too, we can work on the cover together. The Yes paste is one my craft supply list. On to your next tutorial, need to catch up. 👍🌴🌴🌴
Another FABULOUS video from the JJ Queen - hooray! I'm in awe of the amazing cover. Will soooo try to do this one of these day! Have a great weekend! /Ditte
Oh hey, if you want to clean up that brush a bit, soak it in vinegar. It does wonders. Some say to use hot vinegar so I gave that a try , but I couldn't see that it did any better than just plopping brushes into it at room temp. I'd like to say it works on everything but that might be exaggerating just a wee tiny bit.... maybe. My mom painted with oils and acrylics and wasn't very good at cleaning her brushes so when I got them some were hard as rocks but I couldn't throw them away. When I heard about the vinegar thing, years later, I gave it a try and to my great surprise they are ,now, usable. I paint with watercolors and am TRYING to paint with acrylics AND I have a grandaughter. The vinegar treatment works on those brushes too, including the mystery goo brush...... for the most part. Grandchildren. Testing the limits of cleaning supplies and patience since the beginning of time. Gotta love the little monsters 😄💜
Wow, I saw these three videos pop up in my subscription list and I said " Thank you, Thank you, Thank you." This is perfect. Take care and God bless. Sincerely Becky B from Arkansas
Hi Pam..... How lovely is your finished journal.... Love the steampunk style cover and the TN standard size (looks like TN size.) I go and see second part... Maybe I'll finally make a junk journal for me.... 😄.... Your videos are always nice and full of good advices. TFS 😘😘😘
Hi Louisa Vevers! yes, I love t0 make stuff! :) My videos come out every Mon, Wed Fri and Saturdays and my podcasts come out every Tues and Thursday :0) Thanks for Watching! :)
Hi Nancy Worsley! Welcome to the family! I am so excited for you on your new journey into junk journals! It's a very friendly community! Come on down the rabbit hole with the rest of us and have some fun! :)Thanks for watching! :) Pam :) !!
I am a new subscriber. I have watched some of your journal making vlogs. I have had to get up twice to check my fire alarm that kept making a loud screech. Now I realise you have a pet after watching last vlog. I don't know what type of pet you have, bird I would think. I feel such an idiot. Ha!!!
Hi s edwards! Welcome to the family! I had to giggle because we used to do the exact same thing! Yes, its my African Gray parrot named Holly. He is a squeaker ;) Thanks for watching! :) Pam :) !!
I recognize the Mercury insurance envelope!! I have found that some envelopes have prettier designs on the inside, so I un-do the envelopes and re-glue them inside out. :-) Love your videos....
Love your vids--would really love to learn about your recording set up-- do you keep it set up all the time? How do you know what we're seeing and not seeing? Do you have a monitor that you can see/watch what you're doing as you go along? (Also would love a studio tour and to meet the birds =0)
Hi there! I have a very basic and easy set up. I use a desk arm to hold my Samsung S10+ overhead and I use a ring light that shines down on my desk and I use a lapel mic. You can see all these items in my amazon store...scroll all the way to the bottom! :) www.amazon.com/shop/thepaperoutpost The desk arm just pushes easily out of the way when I am done filming. I like the samsung phone because the video recorder on it has a pause button and apparently the apple iphone does not. I would film it, but I can't use my phone to film it because I am filming with my phone ;) LOL Hope this helps!
Good mornin, when you brought out the mod podge and the sponge I thought it was your lunch and the sponge was a lemon. I'm like why is Pam bringing out a lemon? Oh no coffee yet so I'm still groggy. Lol what do we use if we have no stuff in the jar? And I cant afford Gesso. Well I will still watch the series in hope I will get some one day. Lifes a lemon for me right now so I have to be frugal. I only have mod podge and quick drying sleeves heavy turbo glue....could I use that maybe? Man i want to make this so much Pam. It's so fun
Hi Marlene! Gesso is not required, just an option :) You can make the cover out of any envelopes or even a thick paper bag and decorate as you like! You can use pictures from magazines or draw on the cover instead of using gesso:)
@@ThePaperOutpost You can find many recipes for homemade mod podge and gesso which use cheap ingredients. Just google homemade gesso or homemade mod podge. Or search it on YT and find many videos.
Marlene Jones: If you google or search on RU-vid homemade gesso or homemade mod podge you will find many recipes that use cheap, dollar store ingredients.
Great Junk Journal, I really love the structure of the cover and it looks easy enough to make. May I ask with what you film and how do you know if your out of frame? Thanks for the tutorial.
Hi Yvonne! Sure! My film set-up is very low tech! :) I just film with my phone. Its a Samsung S10+ android phone. I place my phone on an arm that attaches to my desk allowing me to shoot down at the table. ($20-$30 on ebay) and I use a clip-on lapel microphone: amzn.to/2uqXfke. I know if I am out of frame if I look at my phone. It is a bit above my head so I have to stretch my neck up to look down at my phone to see if I am in frame. If only my neck was 6 inches longer ! LOL. Hope this helps! :)
@@ThePaperOutpost Thanks very much for the quick reply, it sure helps. So you don't switch your phone camera to selphi mode? You film like you would normally would if you film like your garden or something.
Hi Pam! I'm now watching your videos daily! Love the things you do! I was wondering do we have to use gesso? ( I could make some. However, I was thinking of gluing down pretty papers and maybe covering it in mod podge. But I didnt know if one the gesso made it stronger or if that was just to help the paint take better?
Gesso is not mandatory, its only thick white paint but you can create the cover with mod podge or however you like! :) The world is your oyster! :)The mod podge will add sturdiness too! :) I used gesso to even the tomes out for a solid base color and also to tack down the little fly away edges of paper :)
@@ThePaperOutpost pan your amazing. You take time to answer people. I thought I would give it a shot and ask but wasnt sure I would get a response, only because you have soooooooo many people asking questions and talking and all your groups and so on. Pam I can thank you enough for your time and help you are such a blessing!
Will definitely be trying this project out, just love the softness of the journal and the different papers, but just have to buy the supplies to go with the junk mail lol, just found your channel, will definitely subscribe 💕💕
One cup consumed....I see this will be a three cup day. Guess I will have to clean off my mat so I will have room....or I could put the old plastic table cloth on my dining room table. Be back for Part Two!
