Thank you very much indeed. Some people with unmarried parents broke into my VW T2 which is in the process of being rebuilt. I had just had a complete set of locks fitted. They removed the keys. Guess who is not a happy bunny? Once again, thanks.
Something I have done for years but we all do it a little different. I definitely took some pointers away from this video so thanks Paul! I have always done it in a vice but I have that handle and will give it a go in the back of the van now 👍🏻
GxAxV variety is the spice of life. If all did it the same it would be boring. I used to use vice grips and rest key in notch in the vice anvil plate often found at the back. Achieved same results.
Very interesting video and great instruction, thank you! Do not think I can do this any time soon, but I will try in the future. Definitely will need to revisit this video many times then.
shane huynh thanks Shane. Once you’ve done it once your build on that foundation. It’s not as hard as it looks. It’s just being mindful to keep checking. Thanks for time taken to view and comment. 👍🏻
Awesome video mate! Loved watching this. Very informative. I've literally just impressioned my first key ever for an old padlock I had. Now I have the bug :) Stay safe my friend!!
Rob Locks covers are handy for many things. Picking, decoders, making keys. I’ve done a mortice vid too which is released soon so your see the benefits to covers
I really enjoyed watching this with my morning coffee pal, excellent informative video to us who are new to the trade. Is there any chance you could do a part 2 on how you’d do this with your average euro cylinder? Keep up the good work 👍🏻
Fortress Locksmiths hiya mate, the process is the same. Other then removing circlip and using a pinning shoe to keep bottom pins in. I could prob do a vid showing that as opposed to making a key also. Thanks for the view and comments as always.
Locks in the City Ltd if you could at some point that would be great, obviously not the full process of making the key again, just how to extract the core if you have the key and also if you have to pick it open , cheers mate
hobbo2404 the blanks are easily obtainable. It’s just making sure you get the right profile. Pipin file is handy but if careful with a round file then it’s just as achievable
Simon Bolter cheers mate. Yeah it’s therapeutic and leaves you feeling accomplished. Just had to make keys to, two safe locks. That was enjoyable. Thanks for time taken to watch and comment. It’s appreciated. 👍🏻
There is plenty of reasons as to how you can use this for. I used to do it for landlords, housing associations, estate agents on communal doors. Not to mention other reasons, such as Obsolete lock? Brand new cylinder lost keys, removable core padlock, that’s not to mention locks that can be reconfigured if it’s an odd size cylinder you don’t stock. Pick lock, strip it down and swap pins about and cut a new key. It’s just opening yourself to the money you can make as well as save from simple skills that compliment locksmithing.
Excellent video Paul. Have you got one on how to extract a broken key using the broken key extraction tool and any other methods you may have used over the years depending on the situation?
Gareth Thomas thanks mate, I can look at doing something like that. As many people have different ways but it’s finding what suits you. Thanks for time taken to view and comment. It’s much appreciated. 👍🏻
Gerry Brandreth it’s not a cheap file. Though one key made paid for it. My file is prob 5 years old. Thanks for the view and comment. Nicholson Hand File, Swiss Pattern, Double Cut, Pippin, 2 Coarseness, 6" Length www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001R1V22G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Lg0jFbH5J3157
