I was excited to receive a request asking how I made this knee ascender. These are my thoughts on making one and how I made mine. Cheers!

It's refreshing to see the design and process for customizing climbing gear that mere mortals can build and use. Nicely done.

I plan to make a knee ascender with a Notch Jet Step. Your video is encouraging!

Exactly what I was thinking about.... already really liking it as a regular foot ascender.

How did the Notch jet step work out?

Well done. All your informed comments, explanations, and thought processes really add value. Regarding your knee ascender colliding with your Rope Wrench pulley...... I'm a long time beginner and when I was first trying SRT, my (Saka) knee ascender actually got stuck in my rope wrench hitch climber pulley and kind of freaked me out, even though I was only about 4 or 5 feet off the ground.... also that was before I got my Jet Step and my foot ascender teeth got stuck up high on my rope as well.... ha, so it was a good learning experience. Keep up the good work. Hope you keep making videos.

Nice video! You make it look easy! Maybe just use a sheathed small bungee cord?

I love that Kernmaster, it has such a softer hand than any other kernmantle I've handled. It is definitely my favorite rope!

Good experimentation. Thanks for vid. What is that belt youre using? I havent seen those leg supports before.

It's the Valiant saddle pad system made by Matt Cornell. Basically you just get these pads and create your own life support infrastructure using climbing rope, knots and rings. One of the first videos on my channel was a brief overview of my setup with this saddle, but it has changed a lot so I need to make an update. Currently I'm using custom made leg loops, made to resemble the New Tribe Onyx saddle leg loops.

For webbing thats flat you can use seat belt its a little wider but is rated at like 3000kn

That’s definitely an option I’ve looked at, but it’s just a little bit too bulky for me.

How do you anchor your rope for the two ascenders to allow the cable to flow through them?
@treespicemedia
@treespicemedia 10 месяцев назад
Usually you can just step carefully and orient the foot ascender so that it moves nicely for the first few steps and then there’s enough rope weight after ascending 6 or so feet that you can just rope walk normally. Some people tie weights to the end, but I’ve only ever done that for competitions.
