Thank you very much for sharing this very informative video, it gave me a clear idea on how to do SRT, which I have been thinking to do but I have not found a video on how to do it properly until I watched your video. ❤

I just recently bought a rope wrench setup, hitch climber, and notch Sentinel saddle. Along with a few other pieces of kit, to finally try srt. I've only used old school drt to do tree work, and hip thrusting without a secondary life line always sucked 😄 bear hugging the spar 55ft up trying to get into a natural crotch made my arms look great, but never having a solid attachment point during the climb was a 50/50 gamble every time! Its a process, like anything else, but the benefits are so worth the effort, I'm so glad I took the plunge! Stay safe🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

I have a Haas knee ascender but I've never liked it. Granted, I didn't put the foot ascender on first and climb up a couple feet- so that might work better for me. I also find it really difficult to take off (that and the CT foot ascender so I'm basically axing them both. I couldn't get either of them off with my gloves and it was still difficult even after that. I find the Camp foot ascender far better and I use a light carabiner when I want to lock it in position. The Haas doesn't afford me that option. I have never used a chesty so maybe that is adding to my issues. I am using a Zig Zag and it doesn't seem like I should have such difficulty with this ascension gear. Yes, I have the Haas adjusted properly but I'm still fighting with it constantly and it doesn't advance well at all. Personally, I think I could climb just as fast SRT with just the foot ascender alone. I was told this gear would allow me to climb up fast like on a ladder and this just seems silly to me. Anyway, I'll play around again today and see if a few of your suggestions help. If possible, I'll likely just go with a foot ascender on each foot (don't even know if left and right foot types are made) - that seems far simpler and I wouldn't even have to remove them or store anything extra when up in the tree. I'm starting to hate all these decisions and gear options.......it's no wonder the old timers want to stay old school.......they completely avoid all the confusion with all the varying styles of climbing and new gear- much of which doesn't even seem necessary. I'm waaaaay over three grand already and some of it is already heading toward the trash bin or the emergency backup bag.........

Very true it was difficult when I first started using the foot ascender and the Hass Knee ascender but I figured out what works best for me. I use a pantin by Patzl, The CT that you use looks a lot like the Pntin in size and shape. You mentioned that it was difficult to remove the ascenders with your gloves on are they leather? I use cloth gloves with rubber grip very inexpensive and the feel like you're not wearing any you might even be able to tie knots with them. (Diesel Gloves) you might find the for under $2.00 per pair. Having a Chesty is nice but it is your preference, some guy use a neck leash and some will use there lanyard clipped to there saddle and brought up their back over the shoulder and clip it to their system. Do you run your Zigzag in Ddrt or SRS? Are you using a 1/2" line? When I use the ascenders I've been using an Xstatic it's 11.7mm and I have not experienced it getting hung up except maybe the first couple of steps. True you may be able to climb just as fast with just a foot ascender but if you and figure out how to use both it may be a little faster but I don't think speed it the goal at least not for me. For me it saves my energy and it is more enjoyable. That is key to figure out what works best for you. The are a left and a right foot ascenders but it would be very difficult to use one on each foot you need room for each step. I know all of the new stuff can be overwhelming but it is extremely exciting. When I first started I was shown the tuatline hitch using the end of the line with a figure 8 knot on the bridge and on the tail. The new knot in my area was the Blakes's Hitch. Not too long after that using a split tail and a pulley to tend your knot. The next was the french Prussik cord with carabiners and pulley with all of the different knots as an option. And now we have what stared as SRT (Single Rope Technique) that quickly changed to (Stationary Rope Technique) and now it is SRS (Stationary Rope System) When I first started using this system it just didn't seem possible that it would work I was trying foot lock with it but once I got the foot ascender it made it easier. Wait it took me some time to get used to the foot ascender I was pointing my foot downward and it kept on popping out it was very frustrating. After figured out what was causing it to pop out it was easier. One of my crew members kept turning his foot out which caused the foot acender to pop out. Now I can just attach my system and I can go up without it popping. It's nice most of the climbing I do now a days it for inspection and training. Last inspection I did was 50' up had to see it the crotch was solid it was much more enjoyable with the Rope wrench when I body thrust that high my arms tend to cramp mid way up. I wouldn't get rid of all the gear you invested money and time in just take your time and figure that little adjustment that you have to do to make it work for you. We are in a amazing time in tree care with all of these new options it could be more beneficial for you. I hope this helps. Take care!

@@BinoH Thanks for the very caring and thorough response Bino. Like you, I like a lot of the new gear because I'm in my 50's and it's obviously easier with this gear. I've only been climbing in trees a handful of times and am practicing both DRT and SRT. Overall I see how SRT is easier (due to less friction) but more of a pain when advancing the line using a Zig Zag. I also use an 11.7 mm Xstatic rope and its works perfect with this device. I think the difficulty with the CT ascenders is with the locking mechanism- which is dual action. After the 2nd time I basically "locked" myself in an almost impossible situation and as a result I stopped using it. After the fact, a local guy recommended the Camp ascender and it's far easier for me to use. I'll keep trying the Knee Ascender but with either of these ascenders I have to self tend the rope on each one for at least the first 30 feet upwards. I never see anyone else doing this in their videos- they likely have a ground guy holding the tail end of their rope as they ascend which obviously would expedite things. I'll be back practicing again today......but I think limb walking is going to be a big issue for me. I only weigh 145 but I'm not as stable as I used to be. Maybe once I learn more about redirects and buy myself a few slings that will make it easier. Thanks again. I'm glad to see your channel is growing as your work herein deserves that.

@@michaelferguson167 Yes I get it I'm 52 and 240 so these new gadgets help me out a lot. Glad to hear that you are going to keep working on it. I like to use a canopy anchor also sometimes it's nice to advance from the ground. The video I made SRS Quickie Advancing will also work with the Zigzag in SRS. Do you use the Chicane or a Rope Wrench with your Zigzag?

Try clipping a biner into the hole on the toothed cam on the Hass. It give one a handle one can pull on to release it. I find the Hass doesn't want to release when even partially loaded. The more rope weight the less it's inclined to release. Also one could pull up some rope beneath the Hass and drape it over a limb and tie it off. This takes the drag off the line and makes it easier to release the Hass. Climb safe and enjoy, 👍😁🌲🇮🇪

Anyone use this technique double rope with a zigzag, is it possible?
@hosocat1410
@hosocat1410 4 года назад
Yes, I use a foot and knee ascender with my zigzag climbing drt. Works great. Only difference is you don't need a chest clip because your working end of the climbing line pulls the zigzag with you.
